The Roccbox portable oven can cook a pizza in 90 seconds

If you’ve been on the hunt for the perfect oven, Roccbox may be just the appliance you need for your home. Not only does it cook with wood or gas, but it’s completely portable, which makes it versatile enough to go beyond what it was designed to do: make pizza.

Roccbox is the creation of Tom Gozney, a man who simply wanted to bring wood-fired cooking to the masses. It can reach its top temperature of 932 degrees Fahrenheit in less than 10 minutes, thanks to a rolling flame and a stone cooking floor.

You prep the Roccbox by putting your gas or wood into a compartment in the back of the appliance. Once the flame is ignited, it rises from its compartment, and the arced roof of the Roccbox causes it to roll. It’s this rolling motion that evenly distributes heat throughout the Roccbox, cooking your food thoroughly and efficiently.

Roccbox - Pitch to Rich

The flame that reflects off of the curved roof of the Roccbox redirects heat back onto the food. The stone floor of the device absorbs the heat as well, which then cooks of the underside of the food. The Roccbox allows cool air to flow through the device from the bottom and releases hot air from up top, similar to a convection oven. Within 90 seconds, Roccbox can have a pizza ready to go.

Although this device uses traditional styles of cooking, it strays from the original oven model in several ways. Not only is it portable, but it is composed of stainless steel, silicon, refractory stone and high-tech insulation. All of these materials come together to create a 44-pound oven that’s hard to argue with, even for foodies.

The Roccbox is a semi-finalist in Virgin Media’s #Voom Pitch to Rich contest, so it’s in the running for just over $15,300 (£10,000).

Set for a September 2015 release, it’s retailing at $535. If you can’t wait to get your hands on one, you can preorder the oven now; the company says it will launch worldwide soon.

Update March 16, 2016: The Roccbox is now available on Indiegogo for $479.

Amazon’s new smart oven can air-fry, bake, and microwave your meals
amazons new smart oven air frys warms and microwaves amazon

Today at the Amazon 2019 event, the company unveiled its newest smart cooking appliance, the Amazon Smart Oven. It's described as a combination of a microwave, convection oven, air fryer, and food warmer. And what's more, all of that cooking versatility can be controlled via Alexa-enabled devices and voice commands. Last year, Amazon unveiled a smart microwave, but it didn't seem to wow many. This new device seems much more advanced and useful, especially for those will modest cooking skills.

Certified for humans, Amazon says this new oven is struggle-free, tinker-free, stress-free. It looks like that label is true. The smart oven has 30+ built-in presets. So, all you need to do is ask Alexa to cook a particular food and she'll automatically find the perfect way to cook it. She will also announce when you need to stir your food during the cooking process, when the oven is preheated, and when it's finished.
