Youth-oriented mobile operator Amp’d Mobile has apparently decided that Windows Mobile smartphones aren’t just for geeks, nerds, engineers, and government bureacrats anymore: what with the rising popularity of mobile entertainment and the need of the younger generation to stay on top of messaging and social networking services all the time, Amp’d has decided to give these power users of mobile technology the tools they need in the form of the Motorola Q smartphone.
"With the increased acceptance of smart phones among consumers, the MOTO Q, Amp’d Edition provides our youth demographic an open platform approach to our unique entertainment experience," said Peter Adderton, Amp’d Mobile founder and CEO, in a statement. "Amp’d users will have access to 24 live TV channels, 55 video-on-demand channels, one million downloadable songs, stereo Bluetooth, 3D games, and access to all online social networks, as well as any Windows Mobile application."
The Amp’d Edition of the Motorola Q will sport Windows Mobile 5, topped off with Amp’s custom flash-based interface to the carrier’s broadband content, games, videos, original programming, and original television. And, of course, serious social networking fanatics will appreciate the Q’s QWERTY keyboard and application software capabiliies for editing profiles, sending messages, and leaving embarrassing photos on their best friend’s blogs. And, in the event an Amp’d customer has, say, a real job, the Q can sync with contacts, calendars, and tasks lists, and offers mobile versions of Microsoft Office applications. And Amp’d plans to let its customers crank up their Qs with custom wallpaper and ringtones.
Amp’d hasn’t announced pricing or availability details for its Motorola Q Amp’d Edition yet; I guess if we can’t figure it out by telepathy, we might be outside the company’s target demographic.
