Asus to launch new Padfone Infinity, may have Snapdragon 800 and lower price

Asus just can’t help itself, as despite the current Padfone Infinity launching at Mobile World Congress, it’s already coming up with a sequel, and not just thinking about it either, but actually announcing it. The company has sent out some invitations to an event in Taipei on September 17, where it’ll reveal the, “New Padfone Infinity.”

Now, the Padone Infinity smartphone/tablet combination can hardly be described as old, as the phone has a 5-inch, 1080p display, a quad-core Snapdragon 600, a 13-megapixel camera, and 4G LTE connectivity. The tablet section has a 10.1-inch screen with a 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution.

It’s no slouch then, and realistically, the only feature which could be altered is the processor, as a Snapdragon 800 chip would bring it in line with the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3, and the Xperia Z1. This fits in with some recent leaks, which also say the design of the phone will remain the same, so any accessories will still work with the new model.

It’s also mentioned the price may fall, which probably isn’t a bad thing, as you’ll pay 1000 euros (that’s $1325) for one at the moment. Asus justifies the price by saying it’s less than buying an equivalent phone and tablet separately, but in these days of Nexus 7/Nexus 4 match ups, it’s tough to swallow.

However, before getting too excited, as the event is being held in Taipei, it could indicate we’ll have to wait for the new Padfone Infinity’s release outside of the region. It could also be the reason it didn’t include the new device in its IFA 2013 line-up. We’ll bring you all the news from Asus next week.

Currently, AT&T has its “Next Up” add-on, which has been available for the past several years. This program costs $6 extra per month and lets you upgrade by trading in your existing phone after at least half of it is paid off. But the new Next Up Anytime option gives you some more flexibility.

The Nokia 3210 is the worst phone I’ve used in 2024
A person holding the Nokia 3210, showing the screen.

Where do I even start with the Nokia 3210? Not the original, which was one of the coolest phones to own back in a time when Star Wars: Episode 1 -- The Phantom Menace wasn’t even a thing, but the latest 2024 reissue that has come along to save us all from digital overload, the horror of social media, and the endless distraction that is the modern smartphone.

Except behind this facade of marketing-friendly do-goodery hides a weapon of torture, a device so foul that I’d rather sit through multiple showings of Jar Jar Binks and the gang hopelessly trying to bring back the magic of A New Hope than use it.
The Nokia 3210 really is that bad
