AT&T Rolls Out Cyber-shot and Walkman Phones

U.S. mobile carrier AT&T has officailly introduced the Sony Ericsson C905a Cyber-shot and W518a Walkman phones to the U.S. market; the C905a slider sports an 8.1 megapixel camera, while the W518a flip phone focuses on music and social networking features.

“Sony Ericsson has created two signature phones that enhance the quality of photography and social networking on a phone and take advantage of exciting AT&T services like AT&T Navigator and Video Share,” said AT&T VP Michael Woodward, in a statement.

The C905a sports an 8.1 megapixel camera with xenon flash—which AT&T describes as the best camera available in a mobile phone today—along with a 2.4-inch display, up to 16 GB of storage on Memory Stick Micro media, and PictBridge printing capability for photos. The camera also features face detection and a burst mode which captures seven pictures in one click, enabling users to pick the best one later. The phone also sports an FM radio receiver, video recording capability, mobile email, instant messaging, and of course the capability to tap into AT&T services like AT&T Music, Video Share, and Navigator.

The W518a Walkman phone is designed to be a Facebook-friendly media phone, with a home screen that immediately shows friends’ Facebook status messages and profile photos. Users can also update their own status with just one click from the home screen, and easily upload photos to Facebook—conveniently taken with the phone’s 3.2 megapixel camera. The Walkman phone also features “shake technology” that enables users to shuffle, skip, and control volume on their music playback just by flicking their wrist (be careful not to move too quickly or throw the phone). Users can also purchase and download music via Napster and eMusic over the air.

Both phones will be available at AT&T retail locations beginning July 19, with the C905a going for $179.99 and the W518a going for $49.99—both prices reflect a new two-year service agreement and a $50 mail-in rebate.

Can a $500 Pixel phone beat a $1,000 iPhone in a camera test? I found out
iPhone 15 Pro (left) and Google Pixel 8a camera modules.

Right before Google I/O 2024, Google showed off the latest Pixel device, the Google Pixel 8a. This is the latest offering from the Pixel A-series, which is a more budget-friendly Pixel for those who don’t need all the bells and whistles of the flagship Pixel 8 or 8 Pro.

The Pixel 8a features a new design with more rounded corners and a matte-finish back. It packs Google’s latest silicon, the Tensor G3, but the camera hardware remains unchanged from its predecessor, the Pixel 7a.

TORRAS Ostand Cases: When you want your phone to survive a fall out of a plane
Woman using TORRAS Ostand case ring to hold the phone

Could your phone survive a 1700-foot drop out of an airplane into the English countryside? No, probably not, at least, that’s what most of us would guess. But that’s just what happened to a TORRAS customer using the brand’s tough, nigh-indestructible cases. It’s hard to imagine your phone falling out of a plane for the average person, but it’s a testament to how strong the brand’s protection is. It means a phone falling out of your hands while you’re juggling groceries or belongings will be just fine, as long as it's wrapped in a TORRAS case.

Phone cases are imperative to modern and active lifestyles. They protect your most important device -- one that you carry everywhere -- and they offer a slew of excellent features and options to make your experience better. Venturing outdoors, hiking, camping, or even just going for a stroll, those cases will keep your phone like-new, especially if they slip out of your hands or pocket. But those extra features are what really make all the difference. For example, many of TORRAS' remarkable cases come with a built-in and versatile kickstand. But let's say you have a shiny new Samsung S24, iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Pro Max, and you're looking for a case, and you come across the TORRAS lineup. Should you opt for the Ostand Spin or the Ostand R? It's a valid question, so let's dig in.
