AT&T’s Pantech Breeze Makes Calling Easy

AT&T is now offering the Pantech Breeze, a simplified mobile phone designed to be accessible to first-time mobile phone users and folks who may not need all the bells and whistles of today’s overly complicated (and frequently incompatible) high-powered handsets. The Breeze is an uncomplicated phone building on AT&T’s Universal Design principles, designed to et products be useful to as many customers as possible. As such, the Breeze offers simplified menus, an oversized display, a large keypad, and quick-call keys to simplify reaching commonly-called numbers.

“Universal Design helps define important design criteria to meet the wants and needs of as many of our customers as possible,” said AT&T’s VP Carlton Hill, in a statement. “The Pantech Breeze is a result of our efforts to meet these criteria and offer a great-looking phone that’s a breeze to use for everyone—from tweens to great-grandparents.”

The breeze features three Quick Call keys below the screen so users can call pre-selected contacts with just one button. The menu screens use a large font, display the date and time of an SMS message at the beginning rather than the end, and offers oversized, easy-to-use buttons that respond with a tactile click. The phone also features a dedicated hard key for its integrated video-capable camera (no resolution unspecified), along with Bluetooth 2.0 wireless connectivity.

The Pantech Breeze is available now through AT&T stores for $49.99 with a two-year service agreement and accounting for a $30 mail-in rebate; the phone is also available for $124.99 (after rebate) for Pick Your Plan and Pay As You Go prepaid customers.

This is how your iPhone 14 will make those lifesaving SOS satellite calls
Person holding iPhone 14 with Emergency SOS via satellite notifications.

When Apple introduced the Emergency SOS via satellite feature in the iPhone 14 lineup in September, it said it wouldn't be activated until sometime toward the end of the year. The company confirmed in a press release on Thursday that it is launching the service later this month for iOS users in the U.S. and Canada.

Emergency SOS via satellite will be powered in partnership with Globalstar, a global satellite company based in Covington, Louisiana, to help iPhone 14 users connect to an overhead satellite and reach out to emergency services while in remote areas away from cellular and Wi-Fi coverage — like forests or deserts. The service will be free for the first two years, but Apple hasn't revealed how much it will cost afterward.

Sony's Xperia 5 IV in an exclusive green color.

Sony today debuted at IFA 2022 the Xperia 5 IV, a new compact smartphone. Like all of Sony's smartphones, the company highlights its camera capabilities with a laser-sharp focus on its videography features. It goes on sale in Europe and the U.S. at the end of September and October respectively.

The Xperia 5 IV ships with a compact 6.1-inch OLED display capable of a 120HZ refresh for smooth scrolling and  240Hz Motion blur reduction for gaming. Sony says this is its brightest Full HD display yet and up to 50% brighter than the Xperia 5 III. There's a 3.5mm headphone jack that supports high-quality audio, as well as the newest Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) Audio standard, though that will come in a future update.
