AT&T adds to its budget lineup with the LG K10 and G Pad X 8.0

AT&T welcomed two more affordable devices to its lineup of phones and tablets as the carrier announced it will sell the LG K10 and G Pad X 8.0.

As a refresher, since it was originally announced in January, the K10 features a 5.3-inch, 1,280 x 720 resolution display, with a 5-megapixel selfie shooter above it and a 13MP snapper around back. Powered by an octa-core processor, the K10 includes 16GB of expandable storage, with a 2,300mAh battery keeping the lights on. Finally, the phone runs the aging Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box, with an update to either Marshmallow or Nougat hopefully in the pipeline.

When the K10 was first unveiled, LG announced it will show up with varying processors and RAM amounts, with AT&T not specifying what version of the phone potential customers can expect.

As for the G Pad X 8.0, the newer of the two devices, the tablet features an 8-inch, 1,920 x 1,200 resolution display, with the display opting for Dragontrail instead of Gorilla Glass. In other words, using the display should feel the same as with most other phone displays, but because Dragontrail has a slightly lower value of Vickers hardness, it will be slightly easier to scratch up. With 5MP cameras on either side, a 1.5GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 chipset and 2GB RAM sit at the heart of the tablet.

Interestingly, the G Pad X 8.0 features a dedicated DirecTV button that is supposed to give instant access to shows and movies, while NumberSync lets you make calls from the tablet.

According to LG, the 4,650mAh battery promising up to 34 hours of usage and up to 20 days standby time. Furthermore, only 9.18GB of the 16GB of native storage are available to use, though the MicroSD card slot allows for up to an additional 128GB. Finally, the G Pad X 8.0 runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box.

AT&T did not say how much the K10 or G Pad X 8.0 will cost outright, but the carrier did confirm both devices will be available through AT&T Next. More specifically, the K10 will cost $6 per month over 30 months, whereas the G Pad X 8.0 will cost $50 with a two-year contract. Both devices will be available Friday, July 22.

AT&T Storefront with logo.

Do you want to upgrade your phone more than once a year? What about three times a year? Are you on AT&T? If you answered yes to those questions, then AT&T’s new “Next Up Anytime” early upgrade program is made for you. With this add-on, you’ll be able to upgrade your phone three times a year for just $10 extra every month. It will be available starting July 16.

Currently, AT&T has its “Next Up” add-on, which has been available for the past several years. This program costs $6 extra per month and lets you upgrade by trading in your existing phone after at least half of it is paid off. But the new Next Up Anytime option gives you some more flexibility.

The Nokia 3210 is the worst phone I’ve used in 2024
A person holding the Nokia 3210, showing the screen.

Where do I even start with the Nokia 3210? Not the original, which was one of the coolest phones to own back in a time when Star Wars: Episode 1 -- The Phantom Menace wasn’t even a thing, but the latest 2024 reissue that has come along to save us all from digital overload, the horror of social media, and the endless distraction that is the modern smartphone.

Except behind this facade of marketing-friendly do-goodery hides a weapon of torture, a device so foul that I’d rather sit through multiple showings of Jar Jar Binks and the gang hopelessly trying to bring back the magic of A New Hope than use it.
The Nokia 3210 really is that bad
