Although the name sounds like it should have something to do with Star Trek, neither Captain Kirk or Captain Picard will be found in the Trek HD. Regardless, AT&T says the Trek HD is a “big step forward” for the carrier “in terms of developing affordable products with premium features.”
Those premium features include a 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, though AT&T didn’t reveal how much RAM would accompany the processor. The Trek HD does include 16GB of internal storage, though that can be expanded by up to 32GB using the Micro SD card slot. The tablet does offer 4G LTE connectivity on AT&T’s network and sports an 8-inch HD display.
If you’re someone who likes to take pictures with their tablets, the Trek HD features a 5-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel camera on the front. The 4,060mAh battery should keep the tablet on for up to 8 hours of continuous usage. Finally, AT&T makes note of the tablet’s three out of five rating on AT&T’s Eco-Rating system, a system that rates a product’s environmental and social factors.
AT&T didn’t mention which company will manufacture the tablet, though you can buy one for yourself starting tomorrow. If you’d rather buy the Trek HD in person, you can do so starting this Friday, May 15. Regardless of how you buy it, the tablet will go for $50 with a 2-year contract or $10 a month for 20 months through the AT&T Tablet Installment plan. You can also add the Trek HD to a new or existing Mobile Share Value plan for $10 a month.
