Boost Mobile, the prepaid wireless service and Sprint subsidiary, has announced a live TV sports package for an additional $10 a month on its prepaid plan. Boost Mobile is the first prepaid wireless provider to offer live TV streaming. The new add-on brings live sports TV to customers and supports a number of programs including the upcoming Copa America, which will be streamed exclusively from BEin Sports on the Boost Mobile platform.
“Boost Mobile is continuously seeking services and products that give customers an extra boost,” Boost Mobile’s manager of Multicultural Brand Strategy Arlin Morales said in a press release. “With Copa America around the corner, we’re sure the Live Sports add-on is something our Hispanic customers will truly enjoy. We recognize and embrace our Hispanic customers’ passion for soccer and other sports, and are confident this new add-on will be received enthusiastically.”
Boost Mobile has made a business out of marketing to those looking for a cheaper alternative to the ‘big four’ wireless carriers. Some 86 percent of Boost Mobile customers are hispanic, and with soccer being quite literally the name of the game, it’s no surprise that the live TV sports package will heavily favor soccer programing.
Currently supported channels are
- AyM Sports
- Azteca America
- BeIN Sports
- BeIN Sports en Espanol
- Fightbox
- Latin American Sports
- TyC
The programming will also include more specific live soccer events in select markets such as:
- Latin America: 2015 Copa America (South America), Primera Division and Copa Argentina (Argentina), and Copa de Brasil (Brazil)
- Mexico: Liga MX, Copa MX, and Ascenso MX
- Europe: La Liga and Copa del Rey (Spain), Serie A and Coppa Italia (Italy), Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and Copa de la Ligue (France)
The sports package is the first major add-on we’re hearing about for Boost Mobile’s foray into live streaming, though we anticipate an expansion of the platform in the near future.
