FreedomPop has been offering free Wi-Fi based data for users at home and on smartphones for some time now. On Wednesday, the budget carrier introduced new data plans for tablets like the iPad Mini, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.o, and more.
You can bring any tablet to FreedomPop and the company will give you 500MB of LTE data, 500 texts, and 200 voice messages for free. With this plan, you will be able to send texts and make voice calls on your tablet, if that sort of thing appeals to you.
However, after you’ve used your allotted amount of data, you’ll have to buy more. Luckily, the company’s Unlimited Everything plan offers as many texts, calls, and data as you can use for $20 a month. Unfortunately, once you use 1GB of high-speed 4G LTE in a month, your data will fall down to 3G speeds. Regardless, FreedomPop’s plan gives you more free data than most mainstream carriers offer.
FreedomPop is offering the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 for $200 or a refurbished iPad Mini without the retina display for $319 on its website. You can bring your own tablet to connect to FreedomPop, but it has to be compatible with Sprint’s LTE network.
FreedomPop works in most big cities and a few other locations. The company recently announced plans to expand its service worldwide. If you’re curious about the network, you can read all about it in our investigative post on FreedomPop. Then, if you want to check if you’ll be able to get access to its network in your area, you can enter your zip code on FreedomPop’s website.
