AT&T will start shipping the Galaxy S4 on April 30, pre-orders open now at $200 with a two-year contract

Samsung_Galaxy_S4_2510177kThe Samsung Galaxy S4, one of the biggest smartphone releases of the year, is now available to pre-order through AT&T. Rumors began to gather yesterday concerning the Galaxy S4’s impending availability, where it was suggested April 26 would be the magic day. This wasn’t far off being correct, as if you put down your money today, AT&T says it will ship your phone on April 30. According to Engadget, those who have done so have been told to expect delivery on May 3.

The phone costs $200 with a two-year contract, or if you’d prefer not to commit to this, the Galaxy S4 is priced at $640 on its own. Both White Frost and Black Mist color schemes are shown, but it’s the 16GB model or nothing. AT&T usually makes quite a fuss when a high-profile phone shows up as a pre-order, but at this time, it hasn’t sent out a press release announcing the Galaxy S4’s availability. We’d be surprised if one doesn’t turn up later, and we’ll update here if it does.

Its arrival on the network will come around two weeks after the HTC One is released, which is viewed as its primary Android rival. Although the HTC One also wears a $199 price tag, this is for the 32GB model, but it doesn’t have a microSD card slot to increase this any further. They both have 1080p displays, with the Galaxy S4’s measuring 5-inches, while the HTC One’s is slightly smaller at 4.7-inches.

Although some Galaxy S4 models will come with the Exynos 5 Octa processor, the U.S. version (and the UK model) will be equipped with a 1.9GHz Snapdragon 600 quad-core chip. Other standout features include a 13-megapixel camera, 2GB of RAM, and a wide range of special Samsung apps which compliment the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system. Naturally, the Galaxy S4 will connect to AT&T’s 4G LTE network.

T-Mobile in the U.S. has said the Galaxy S4 will arrive on May 1, while in the UK, the phone goes on sale on April 26.

The S24s are the newest release in Samsung's Galaxy line, but there are more reasons to upgrade than just having the newest model. The S24 and S24 Plus are slightly bigger than their S23 counterparts; both are a bit taller. The Ultra has stayed the same size. There are some standard upgrades, like a higher maximum brightness and a slightly different user interface.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 vs. Galaxy S22 Ultra
The open screen on the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

It’s becoming clear that foldable smartphones are Samsung’s answer to the larger “phablets” of days gone by. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra was arguably superseded by Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra, and when the Galaxy S22 Ultra arrived earlier this year looking even more like a Galaxy Note, the message was clear.

However, it’s the Galaxy Z Fold 4 that’s filling the void for folks looking for an even more expansive screen on their smartphone. Thanks to foldable technology, it’s finally possible to carry a tablet-sized device in your pocket, meaning it could be the go-to phone for those looking to maximize what they can do with their phone.
