Google pulled the plug on the Nexus 5, so you’d better hurry if you want one

Google recently released a much larger and more expensive Nexus smartphone than its loyal fans are used to. Now, the cheaper and comparably petite Nexus 5, which was many a pure Android fans’ ultimate dream, may soon get the axe. A Google spokesperson recently told TechRadar that production of the Nexus 5 has been stopped, adding that “once they are gone, they’re gone, so we’d suggest people get them while they can.”

Recently, Google pulled the red and white versions of the Nexus 5 from the Google Play Store, prompting users to wonder if the Nexus 5 was on its way out. At this point, only the black version of the Nexus 5 is still listed on the Play Store, but both the 16GB and 32GB storage options are already sold out. It’s unclear whether Google has a few more handsets lying around that it will put up for sale on the Play Store at a later date, or if this is truly the end of the line for the $350-$400 wunderkind.

Although the Play Store seems to be out of Nexus 5 handsets, other retailers may still have some in stock. Most listings on Best Buy‘s site show the Nexus 5 sold out online, but a few versions may still be available at select retail locations. Meanwhile, eBay is full of new listings for the Nexus 5, as many former owners move to take advantage of the shortage. Prices vary from $200 and up, depending on the condition of the device. You can also check Amazon, but you’ll find similar prices. Regardless, if you want a Nexus 5 and are hoping to pay retail price for it, you’d better act fast.

Those who are interested in the Nexus 6 will also have a hard time finding one, as the Play Store is sold out of that device as well. However, Google promises that this one will be restocked in short order and lists the carriers who may have a few in stock.
