Google Play celebrates Game of Thrones season 8 with discounted content

Game of Thrones is finally back, but if you’re a true fan, it’s worth looking beyond just the TV show. Google announced a series of discounts on Game of Thrones-related games and other content on Google Play — which is perfect for those that want to dive deep into the Game of Thrones world and everything related to it.

Discounts include games and books, as well as the already-released TV season of the show — so you can catch up on seasons 1 through 7 before you get started on season 8.

Perhaps one of the coolest discounts is for the game Reigns: Game of Thrones on Google Play, in which you will go through the visions of Melisandre and claim the Iron Throne. You’ll play as all your favorite characters, including Cersei Lannister, Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, and more. You will also navigate the fragile and complex relationships in the Seven Kingdoms. Safe to say, it’s a great game for the fan of Game of Thrones. From April 10 to April 17, you’ll be able to get the game for 30% off, and you can download it straight from Google Play.

It’s also worth checking out the books. For starters, you can get the first book of A Song of Ice and Fire, by George R.R. Martin, for 70% off from April 12 to April 15. On top of that, Google curated a list of the Game of Thrones audiobooks, which is perfect for fans who spend a lot of time in the car or on the go and don’t want to read the physical books.

Last but not least is a massive sale on the first sevens seasons of the Game of Thrones TV show. You can get the first seven seasons of the show for yourself for a massive 50% off, which is great news for those that are new to the show and want to jump on board. The deal on the TV show is available from April 9 to April 18.

There’s some extra content you can enjoy for free from Google Play too — like, for example, interviews with stars like Emilia Clarke, Maisie Williams, and Isaac Hempstead Wright.

Netflix’s 3 Body Problem is missing the one thing that made Game of Thrones great

Netflix's 3 Body Problem isn't just the streaming service's long-awaited adaptation of the acclaimed Chinese science fiction novel of the same name by Liu Cixin. It's also Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss' follow-up to their HBO smash hit. In many ways, the Netflix series, which Benioff and Weiss co-created with Alexander Woo, is a worthy successor to a show like Thrones. Like that game-changing HBO drama, it's an adaptation of the kind of famously complex source material that many understandably believed to be unadaptable.

To Benioff, Weiss, and Woo's credit, they prove that's not true across 3 Body Problem's debut eight-episode season. Together, the trio and their collaborators successfully streamline the science-driven narrative of Cixin's original novel, turning it into an episodic story that is both easily digestible and propulsive. While 3 Body Problem gets a lot right, though, it's missing the one thing that made Game of Thrones such a beloved show in the first place. To put it frankly, its characters just aren't all that memorable.

HBO has multiple incredible shows. After all, as the cable network's slogan goes, it's not television, it's HBO. However, few of the network's originals can compare to the juggernaut that was Game of Thrones. Developed by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss and based on George R. R. Martin's literary saga A Song of Ice and Fire, the show followed multiple feuding noble families struggling to sit on the Iron Throne and rule over the war-torn continent of Westeros.

At its peak, Game of Thrones was the biggest show on Earth, dominating award shows and scoring HBO the biggest ratings in its history. Across eight seasons and 73 episodes, the show shocked, scandalized, and thrilled audiences worldwide, cementing its place among television's greatest achievements. However, even its most devoted fans can't say it remained consistent throughout. Indeed, while some seasons were positively masterful, others were outright embarrassing, proving that when you play the game of thrones, there truly is no middle ground.

At Moblie World Congress (MWC ) 2024, Google is bringing a healthy bunch of new features to Android. In line with the AI push all across the industry, some notable AI-driven enhancements are on the table. There are also a handful of core Android features that sound practically amazing.
The first in line is Gemini. The generative AI chatbot recently got a standalone app for Android, and now it’s headed for the Google Messages app. Users can chat with Gemini directly in the messaging app and use its generative capabilities for a host of things, like drafting replies, refining a message, and more.

Another feature that was showcased a while ago is finally ready for prime time. Android Auto is gaining support for message summarization for standalone texts and group chats, and it can also suggest replies. With a single tap, users will also be able to drop a message, start a call, and share an estimated arrival time. The idea is to deploy AI for crucial tasks so that it can minimize distractions while driving.
Lookout, an accessibility-centric feature for users with vision challenges, is also getting meaningful AI love. On Android phones, Lookout will now read AI-generated captions and descriptions for media content. For now, the AI boost to Lookout and Messages is limited to the English language.
