Youth-oriented MVNO Helio has announced a new partnerhip with Buzzd that will enable Helio subscribers to tap into real-time information on local restaurants, bars, clubs, and entertainment venues based on the user’s current location. The option will appear on all Helio devices, and currently offers information for all major cities in the United States.
“Buzzd is the slick new way to find the best local events and venues for the mobile generation,” said Helio’s Senior Manager for Content Services Anna Lee, in a statement.
In addition to letting Helio users locate bars where they can get (ahem) buzzed, the service enables subscribers to find and message friends, search event and venue listings by size, location, and price, along with the first-hand ratings of other users already at the location that are layered on top of event listings and other information. Buzzd prides itself on providing real-time information about what the “scene” is like at any given location, including ratings of specific events. (We assume the Buzzd ratings of an event go down if we were to turn up.) The service is available now on the Helio WAP deck, or users can set it up by sending a text message with the word “join” to 96321.
