The HTC One A9 may not be the company’s final smartphone release of the year, and rumors are spreading about a device that’s being called the One X9. Initially leaked with a very strong spec sheet, subsequent gossip has hinted the phone won’t be quite as exciting, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t pay it any attention. Here’s what we think we know about the HTC One X9.

A familiar design

Pictures of the HTC One X9 show a phone that looks more like a Huawei device — either the Nexus 6P or the P8 — matched with HTC’s familiar all-metal body. The specifications aren’t outstanding, but the metal body could separate the phone from other mid-range hardware, if HTC prices the phone correctly should it be released.

Images of the phone dressed in white leaked in mid-December, showing a plastic bump at the top edge of the back of the phone. You will also notice that the One X9 sports capacitive buttons instead of the onscreen layout found on the One A9. This is likely due to the fact that the One X9 lacks a fingerprint scanner. The last image in the gallery below shows a comparison with the One A9.

Specs may be mid and not high range

A listing on the TENAA website — a Chinese regulatory board — suggests the One X9 may not be the powerhouse we initially expected. The details, which are still unofficial, paint a more modest picture of the phone, starting with a 1080p, 5.5-inch screen.

The processor is supposedly a 2.2GHz octa-core chip, which may be the Snapdragon 820, but could also be MediaTek’s Helio X10, particularly because it’s supported by 2GB of RAMAndroid 5.0.2 Lollipop is listed as the OS, along with 16GB of internal memory, and a 13-megapixel rear camera.

Early leaks made the One X9 sound very different

The phone listed on TENAA’s website is referred to as the One X9u, but earlier leaks made the phone sound considerably more exciting. Whether the leaked specs end up relating to a different phone remains to be seen, but it’s telling that the most recent leak was quickly removed from the Weibo social network on which it was posted.

The photo leak revealed some tantalizing hints about the One X9, which are very different from the most recent spec rumors. It suggested the phone would have a 5-inch 2,560 x 1,440-pixel display, a Snapdragon 820 processor, and a massive 4GB of RAM. The photo showed stereo Boomsound speakers on the front of the device.

Other notable rumored specs include a 23-megapixel camera and a 4-ultrapixel front-facing camera. The leaked promo didn’t show what version of Android the One X9 is running, but it appears to have capacitive buttons.

Whatever the situation with the One X9, we’ll keep you updated here on the latest developments.

Moto Edge X30, first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phone likely to launch on December 9
Motorola Edge X30

Motorola has been very active lately with launches in the mobile segment ranging from entry-level to high-end devices. Now it looks like the race for the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 smartphone is heating up and Motorola is trying to get the upper hand by being the first to launch a smartphone with the new chipset. The Lenovo-owned smartphone maker has confirmed that it will be announcing an Edge smartphone with Qualcomm’s latest flagship chip on December 9. This is likely to be the Moto Edge X30 (or just Motorola Edge), but there’s also a possibility of the Motorola G200 launching at the same time.

The teaser doesn’t reveal much more about the device, and a lot is still under wraps, but there are some tidbits that we can gather from the phone’s certification. For starters, its battery certification shows a 5,000mAh cell with a charging capacity of 68.2W, which is one of the highest in Motorola phones. Consumers in China are likely to have many choices in terms of storage as there are reportedly 6GB/8GB/12GB/16GB RAM and 128GB/256GB/512GB storage options. Chen Jin, Lenovo China’s head of mobile division, also revealed that the phone has Gorilla Glass protection on both sides as well as the latest My UX 3.0 software.

OnePlus 9 RT with Snapdragon 888 could launch in India soon with a new name
OnePlus 9RT leaked in silver color option showing the camera module of the smartphone.

From merging back into parent company Oppo to fusing OxygenOS into Oppo's ColorOS to deviating its focus from flagships, OnePlus has undergone many alterations that haven't always been the best for customers. One of the more disappointing ones was OnePlus skipping the OnePlus 9T to focus on the OnePlus 10 instead. However, it is bringing a successor to the OnePlus 9R, which willo be limited to India and China. The OnePlus 9RT was launched in China last month, and several leaks suggest it is now headed to India.

The smartphone was recently listed on the Google Play Console, as spotted by tipster Mukul Sharma (better known as Stufflistings), and has the same specs as the Chinese variant. The only thing that appears to have changed is the name of the smartphone. Instead of its original launch name, the phone is referred to as OnePlus RT, suggesting a rebrand for its launch outside China.
