iM7 Adds Big Sound to Your iPod

Compatible with the Apple iPod, iPod mini and iPod Photo, the new Altec Lansing inMotion iM7 Portable Speaker System reminds us of the older Bazooka Tube subwoofers that car audio retailers sell. That’s not a bad thing though, because the iM7 looks pretty powerful. Packed into the iM7 are two 1″ tweeters, two 3″ mid-range drivers, a 4″ side-firing subwoofer and a 4″ passive radiator. More power than most home mini-systems.

When the speaker system is plugged into an A/C adapter, it will charge your Apple iPod for you. Or should you want to take the iM7 on the road, you can listen to music using a battery pack while in battery-operated mode, although we are not sure how long the system will last when running on batteries (and powering your iPod at the same time).

The inMotion iM7 Portable Speaker System will be available in June at Apple stores and at www.alteclansing.com at an MSRP of $249.95. The product measures 6.5″ x 16.75″ x 6.5″ and ships with a power supply and international plug set. Eight D batteries (not included) are required for battery operation.

The Bose SoundDock certainly has a more sophisticated look when compared to the Altec Lansing iM7 speaker system, but it does not pack nearly the horsepower so-to-speak, and costs $50 more.

As Apple’s Wideworld Developers Conferencce gets closer, the rumors have continued coming in at rapid succession. Over the weekend, in his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims that iOS 17 will support app sideloading to comply with European regulations. This would allow iPhone users to download apps and games that are hosted on digital storefronts that are not Apple’s official App Store — something Android phones have been able to do for years.

With the ability to sideload apps, customers don’t necessarily need to use Apple’s App Store to download and purchase apps or make in-app purchases. This change would also mean developers can bypass Apple’s 15% to 30% fees from all purchases.
