Lenovo’s new Vibe smartphones will delight power users and selfie-lovers

I know what you’re thinking: The Vibe P1, Vibe P1m, and Vibe S1 can’t be smartphones, but that’s exactly what they are. Lenovo announced all three today at IFA and they offer above-average specs for the money. The Vibe P1 and Vibe P1m sport amazing battery life, while the Vibe S1 could very well be the perfect selfie phone.

Lenovo Vibe P1 and Vibe P1m

The Vibe P1 is the bigger brother of the two. It has a 5.5-inch LCD IPS Gorilla Glass 3 display with a resolution of full HD (1,920 x 1,080). On the other hand, the Vibe P1m features a 5-inch LCD IPS Gorilla Glass 3 display with a resolution of 720p (1,280 x 720).

Both phones feature some of the largest batteries we have ever seen on a smartphone. The bigger P1 sports a humongous 5,000mAh battery, while the P1m gets 4,000mAh, To give you a better idea of what this means, the P1 is rated to last 81 hours or 3.3 days. Both phones also feature Quick Charge 2.0, which means you can charge up these bad boys in a little over two hours. The OneKey Power Saver feature can double your battery life if you run into trouble, but we’re doubtful you will ever need it though. Finally, these batteries are capable of charging accessories, such as a Bluetooth headset, through the USB On-The-Go (OTG) support.

The P1 sports a curved back, which is 4.6mm at its thinnest point (the sides) and 9.9mm at its thickest point (the center of the back). The P1m comes in at 9.3mm. The P1 has a more premium feel with its aluminum back cover, while the P1m sports a polycarbonate body.

The only other difference between the P1 and P1m is the internal storage, which is 32GB and 16GB respectively. The included MicroSD slot allows you to add an additional 128GB on the P1 or 32GB on the P1m.

The rest of the specs for both phones include a 1.5GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdraon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear camera with phase detection auto-focus and dual-color flash, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and Android 5.1.

As far as connectivity goes, you have 4G (LTE) with dual-SIM support, 802.11 b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 LE, and GPS.

The Vibe P1 will be available in Platinum and Graphite Grey and will start at $279, while the Vibe P1m will be offered in both Onyx Black and Pearl White and will start at $159. They should be out in time for the holidays, but the North American market won’t see either phone.

Lenovo Vibe S1

The Lenovo Vibe S1 just might be the perfect selfie phone with its dual front-facing cameras. The 8-megapixel primary lens is for detail and sharpness, while the 2-megapixel secondary lens gathers depth information to make the “ultimate selfie photo.” The 13-megapixel rear camera features phase-detection auto-focus and dual-color flash.

The phone features an aluminum frame along with a Gorilla Glass 3 back cover, giving is a premium look and feel.

The Nokia 3210 is the worst phone I’ve used in 2024
A person holding the Nokia 3210, showing the screen.

Where do I even start with the Nokia 3210? Not the original, which was one of the coolest phones to own back in a time when Star Wars: Episode 1 -- The Phantom Menace wasn’t even a thing, but the latest 2024 reissue that has come along to save us all from digital overload, the horror of social media, and the endless distraction that is the modern smartphone.

Except behind this facade of marketing-friendly do-goodery hides a weapon of torture, a device so foul that I’d rather sit through multiple showings of Jar Jar Binks and the gang hopelessly trying to bring back the magic of A New Hope than use it.
The Nokia 3210 really is that bad
