Verizon Wireless has announced it’s bringing LG’s first Android-powered handset to the American market on May 20: the LG Ally will sport a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard for all your email and messaging needs.
The Ally is LG’s first Android phone to hit the U.S. market, and—in addition to being promoted heavily in conjunction with the new Iron Man sequel—Verizon is touting its futuristic styling and customizability. In addition to being able to tap into the Android Marketplace for apps and toys, the phone features five customizable jome screens, a 3D App Launcher and “Live Wallpaper,” in addition to standard music and video playback capabilities. The phone features S-GPS support for location-enhanced applications and mapping, a proximity sensor that automatically locks touchscreen buttons while a user is speaking on the phone, and a light sensor to adjust LCD brightness depending on light conditions. The LG Ally also sports an SDHC card slot for up to 16 GB of removable storage.
The LG Ally will be available for pre-order beginning May 13, with retail availability starting May 20. The phone will be priced at $99.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new two-year contract. Customers will need to subscribe to voice and at least an “Email and Web for Smartphone” plan, which start at $39.99 and $29.99 per month, respectively.
