Motorola Moto Edge 20 series: Everything you need to know

Motorola’s new Edge 20 series of phones has been confirmed internationally — and although we’re not getting the midrange Edge 20 in the U.S., we are getting a rather similar variant known as the Edge, with presales starting August 23. Here’s everything we know about each device in the lineup so far, including how much they’re likely to cost you.

The Edge 20 Lite will likely be the cheapest of the new Edge 20 series and is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 720 5G chip with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It sports a 6.7-inch full HD+ display, the same as the other phones in the series. It’s reported to have three rear cameras: A 108MP main, a 16MP ultrawide, and an 8MP lens, with a 32MP selfie camera on the front. The battery here is expected to be the biggest of the range at 5,000mAh and it will feature 30-watt fast charging.

When it comes to cameras, the Edge 20 is reported to have the same lineup as the Edge 20 Lite. It has a 4,000mAh battery that is smaller battery than the one in the Edge 20 Lite. This phone won’t be coming to the U.S. and Canada — instead, the new Motorola Edge will launch in late August — more on that in a moment.

The flagship of the Edge 20 lineup, the Edge 20 Pro is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chip with 6GB, 8GB, or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage. The cameras on offer include a 108MP camera with 5x optical zoom, an 8MP telephoto camera, and a 16MP ultrawide camera. The Motorola Edge for the U.S. and Canada

Although the U.S. isn’t getting the midrange Motorola Edge 20, the U.S. variant, simply called “Edge,” boasts some great specs. It shares the same Snapdragon 778G chip as the Edge 20, and comes with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage, which doesn’t appear to be expandable via microSD card. It boasts a larger 6.8-inch LCD FHD+ display with that 144Hz refresh rate, and its battery is larger than that of the international Edge 20, coming in at 5,000mAh with 30-watt charging. The cameras on offer also differ, with a 108MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP depth sensor, plus a 32MP selfie camera. The U.S. Edge is a weighty device at 200 grams compared to the 185g of the Motorola Edge 20 Pro. The phone comes in one color: Nebula Blue.

When is the new Motorola Edge on sale in the U.S. and Canada?

The new Edge will be available for presale starting August 23, with the phone available to buy beginning September 2. For a limited time, you’ll be able to pick up the Edge for $500, saving $200 off the usual price of $700. In the U.S. you’ll be able to get an unlocked handset that works with all carriers at Best Buy, Amazon, B&H Photo, and Motorola. In the coming months, the Edge 20 series will also be available from Spectrum Mobile and Verizon. Customers in Canada can also expect availability in the coming months.

Carrying forward the legacy of the Edge series, the upcoming phone embraces a curved screen, metallic sides, and a leather finish on the rear shell. There are three cameras at the back, one of which relies on the folded lens zoom hardware.

motorola edge 50 Pro rear shell.

Earlier today, Motorola introduced a new premium phone in the Edge series, and from the looks of it, this could be one of the most value-centric phones of 2024. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro, which flaunts a fresh design language, marked its arrival in the Indian market with a price tag of roughly $385. For a limited spell, it will be sold at approximately $335, which is nothing short of stunning.

At that asking price, you won’t find a phone in the U.S. market that can match the hardware prowess and the fine looks of Motorola’s latest phone. We are talking about sleek curved glass aesthetics, a metallic frame, and a vegan leather finish available in a beautiful lavender shade.
