MyTape for iOS lets you capture and share your favorite moments

MyTape
MyTape is a new social video app for iOS that lets you shoot awesome videos, follow people, and watch what’s happening around you. It’s pretty similar to Twitter’s live-streaming app, Periscope, so it will be interesting to see if this app takes off.

When you first open MyTape, you will instantly see the shooting screen, which is ready for some action. Similar to Snapchat, press and hold to record, and release to share what’s going on. You can even turn on the flash or reverse the camera, but that’s all for now.

You’ll need to keep your finger on the white shutter button, so your video can be under 20 seconds long. Once you release your finger from the shutter button, you can add your location and a tag. From there, you can share your video via Facebook, Twitter, Messenger, WhatsApp, text, and email. Of course, if you create a video that you’re not happy with, you can delete by tapping on the trash can in the left-hand corner of your video.

If you’re looking to navigate your way between all of the different screens, you can easily swipe left, right, or down. You can check out your notifications, on the left, and on the right. You can also view video feeds, your profile, and settings. There’s a search screen, too, where you search videos by tag.

Just like Periscope and Meerkat, MyTape will notify your followers when you’re shooting a new video, this way they can post comments in real time. Since videos are only 20 seconds long, most people probably won’t take advantage of this feature, though.

While MyTape competes with Periscope, it’s also different because it wants to create a global community for video enthusiasts. It’s not only well-designed, but it’s also easy to use.

You can download MyTape from the App Store here.

How to use iOS 14’s App Library: Tidy your home screen
iOS 14 App Library

The App Library is one of iOS 14's most useful features. It's basically a drawer for all of your iPhone's apps, tucked away after the last page of the home screen. This doesn't sound particularly revolutionary on its own, but what it means is that you can remove apps from your home screen, resting safe in the knowledge that they'll still be discoverable via the App Library. This is great if there are a bunch of apps you hardly ever use since moving them to the App Library will mean that you can tidy up your home screen and display only the apps you really need.

In celebration of this helpful feature, we explain how to use iOS 14's App Library. We detail how to remove apps from your home screen and then find them in the App Library. We also explain how to return apps from your App Library to the home screen, how to delete apps permanently from the App Library, and also how to change the default location of downloaded apps.

Even before you remove apps from your home screen, you can still use iOS 14's App Library to find every app on your iPhone. To access the App Library, swipe beyond the very last page of the home screen.

How to control your iOS app permissions
how to control ios app permissions feat image

Mobile apps are the universal gateway to multi-purpose functionality. With Apple's iOS apps, permissions allow you to seamlessly tag photos and videos with your location, permit video apps to use your camera and microphone, allow map apps to determine your exact location to give you proper directions, and let weather apps give you the correct forecast so you know whether to dress warmly or grab an umbrella. When apps know what they need to know about you, they can do a better job. But sometimes apps can go overboard seeking information they don't need or gather it constantly, and that's where you need to take control.

Take a few minutes to get an idea of what you're already sharing with your iOS apps, and whether that information is absolutely necessary and if there's anything you need to change. You can grant and revoke permissions at any time. On iOS, apps request permissions at the time of need, including to show notifications and often when you install or use a new app. Here are a few ways to control your app permissions in iOS 14.5 -- which is similar to, but somewhat more detailed and specific, than previous versions.
