Freshly leaked images that have found their way to Twitter — posted by a usually reliable source — seem to confirm that Apple is going big with its next handset. The pictures show both a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch model in silver and gold, backing up the rumors we’ve been hearing about Apple offering multiple iPhone sizes next time around.
Of course you don’t have to travel very far across the Web to find an iPhone rumor or two — but these pictures come from a source that has a good track record when it comes to previous tip-offs. Blogger Sonny Dickson has been on the money with several iOS, iPad and iPhone leaks in the past, so while nothing here is 100 percent confirmed, we can have a certain level of confidence that these images are the real deal.
To save you some virtual legwork we’ve collected all of the iPhone 6 rumors so far into one handy guide. Some of the whisperings we’ve been hearing say the next iPhone will be thinner and lighter than ever (no surprises there), featuring an edge-to-edge display and — gasp! — a translucent Apple icon on the back, used as a notification light.
While there’s a lot of support for the theory that both 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models are incoming, several insider sources say that they won’t be released together, with the larger handset appearing later in the year. As for the existing 4-inch size, it remains to be seen whether Apple will decide to keep it around. The tech giant has long resisted the trend towards larger phones and ‘phablets’, but it now looks set to experiment with more screen sizes.
As for when Apple will finally unveil the phone, we just don’t know — previous models have been launched in September and October, but some tipsters in the supply chain are suggesting that the Cupertino company will launch the iPhone 6 earlier than this. Whoever turns out to be right, we shouldn’t have long to wait. Will you be picking one up?
