Nokia is expanding the range of mobile devices its offering in the United States, today announcing that its N75 and N76 clamshell multimedia phones are now available to consumers through independent distributors, rather than in an deal with mobile operators.
“Nokia is thrilled to include the Nokia N76 and the Nokia N75 into the growing line of Nseries multimedia computers which are now available directly to consumers in the United States,” said Bill Plummer, Nokia North America’s VP of Sales & Channel Management in a statement. “By bringing to market multimedia computers that will unlock the door to new multimedia experiences, Nokia strives to expand the US marketplace.”
The S60-based Nokia N75 offers WCDMA 850/1900 and quad-band GSM connectivity with music functions, including stereo 3-D playback, integrated speakers, and dedicted music keys. The phone also features Bluetooth with A2DP capability, up to 40 MB of internal memory and another 2 GB of storage available via microSD storage. The phone also sports a 2 megapixel camera, on-device photo editing, , and the ability to play Java-based SNAP Mobile games. The phone sports a 320 by 240 pixel 2.4-inch internal LCD display and measures just over 20mm thick.
The Nokia N76 is also built on the S60 platform and aims for the more fashion-conscious, touting premium materials in its tempered glass or mirrored steel casings. The phone s along with dedicated music keys, an integrated FM receiver, built-in speakers, and microSD storage; the phone also offers dual mode connectivity (with WCDMA 2100, EGSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, or EDGE only), and a video-capable 2 megapixel camera—the phone can shoot pictures without being opened, and offers in-camera editing for folks who just have to get pictures sent off via email or posted to their blog, but need to crop out that unwanted guest or zap out some red-eye.
The N75 and N76 are available now online via Nokia’s N-Series site, other online retailers and various retail outlets. The N75 carries a suggested price of $429.99 and the N76 goes for $499.99—and remember these are being offered independently of any carrier, so there’s no service contract.
