OxygenOS 13 beta for the OnePlus 10 Pro is here, and you can download it now

Earlier this month, OnePlus revealed the latest iteration of its custom user interface — OxygenOS 13 — along with the launch of the OnePlus 10T. The company announced that an open beta of the OS would soon be available for the OnePlus 10 Pro, followed by the 10T sometime later.

Now, as per a OnePlus Community post, the first Open Beta of the OxygenOS 13 is out for the OnePlus 10 Pro smartphone. Here are some interesting new changes you’d see in the new OS.

New design language

Oxygen OS 13 now looks more identical to the ColorOS. With this iteration, OnePlus has brought a new “Aquamorphic” design style, which, as per the company, is inspired by water. It also borrows the new Quantum Animation Engine 4.0 from ColorOS 13, which, according to the forum post, “recognizes complex gestures and provides optimized interactions.”

The animations are more natural looking now, and the fonts have been optimized for better readability. You’ll also notice things like the Quick Settings shade, Settings app, etc. look significantly different from their appearance in OxygenOS 12.

More efficient

The new OS allows adding large folders with multiple apps to the smartphone’s home screen, and you can open any app from inside a folder directly with just one tap. For screenshots, you get new markup and editing tools. The Shelf has also been optimized, and it can now be accessed by swiping down on the home screen by default.

Better security and privacy

OxygenOS 13 regularly clears clipboard data on its own for privacy protection. There’s a new feature that when taking screenshots of chats, automatically pixelates profile pictures and names to hide the identity of the person in the screengrabs. Also, all the files in the Private Safe are now encrypted using the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).

Improved always-on display

Thanks to a partnership with Spotify, you can now view details of the current song and control the music playback without waking up the screen. Also, new animations and Bitmojis have been added to the Always-On Display. Moreover, the Canvas AOD feature now gets more drawing tools and colors.

Available to download now

It’s worth noting that the OxygenOS 13 Open Beta 1 is available for OnePlus 10 Pro smartphone users in North America and India only. The community post says that users in Europe will get it soon. Details regarding other countries are not available yet.

That said, there are many known issues with this update. Some of them can be really annoying for certain users, like the screen freezing when you take videos in specific scenarios. Night mode also appears to be broken, and taking pictures of people at 3.3x optical zoom might not save them to your phone. To read the entire changelog and known issues of this beta of the OxygenOS 13, you can head over to the OnePlus Community post.

OnePlus has big news for September 25 — but it’s not a folding phone
OnePlus-11-Marble-Odyssey-Edition display view.

Within a span of two days this week, we got the launch dates of new iPhones and Google’s Pixel 8 series phones. Today, OnePlus also made a major announcement, albeit one that has little to do with hardware — or its highly anticipated foldable phone.

It is still a remarkable one, however. OnePlus will release Android 14-based OxygenOS 14 on September 25. That also means the stable build of Android 14 will arrive for supported Google Pixel phones before that date, and likely for some Samsung phones as well.
OnePlus will finally start public testing of Android 14 in the coming days for the OnePlus 11, the OnePlus 11R, and the OnePlus Nord 3. The company has been refining the latest iteration of OxygenOS for the past few weeks as part of a closed beta program. Soon, OnePlus will kickstart the OxygenOS 14 Open Beta program ahead of the stable release.
However, OnePlus won’t be the only brand soak-testing Android 14 ahead of its wide release later this year. Google has seeded multiple public beta builds of Android 14 over the past few months for its Pixel phones, and Samsung has also started testing One UI 6 based on Android 14 for a select bunch of high-end Galaxy phones.

You can now preorder the OnePlus Pad for $99 … kind of
The back of the OnePlus Pad tablet.

Fans who are excited to finally be getting their hands on the OnePlus Pad are now able to preorder the tablet ... sort of.

Preorders for the OnePlus Pad went live today. However, it's not a preorder in the traditional sense where someone would pay full price for an item upfront and then receive it when it launches for no extra charge. Instead, fans are able to put down a $99 down payment to reserve their spot in "line" for the tablet when it releases later this year.
