Pocket Live TV Brings TV To Windows Mobile

If you’re one of those people for whom one of the hardest things about being away from home is being away from your TV…then Amsterdam’s Makayama Software has a solution or you in the form of Pocket TV 1.0, a Windows Mobile application which brings 100 live television channels from 10 countries to your Windows Mobile device live, using either 3G or Wi-Fi connectivity.

Channel offers on Pocket TV 1.0 include news channels like CNN, BBC, NBC, the Weather Channel, Sky News, and Deutsche Welle, music channels MTV, Ministry of Sound, and 3for12, and sports offerings like the Baseball Channel, Eurosport, and Sportbox, along with dozens of channels offering information and entertainment programming, although lineups vary by country. Pocket Live TV streams the video content to your Windows Mobile device using either 3G or Wi-Fi networking…so if you can find a Wi-Fi hotspot, you might be able to avoid data charges for television programming altogether. There’s no subscription fee associated with Pocket TV Live: just a one-time $19.95 software purchase price.

Want to watch TV in your hotel? Better bring your phone
Using a remote control.

If you haven't stayed in a hotel recently -- you know, because of a global pandemic -- you might not be aware of a big change that is happening to hotel TVs: Physical remotes are going away. In their place, guests are expected to use their smartphones, which can display a set of virtual remote buttons, similar to the companion apps offered by Roku, Apple, and Google for their streaming media devices and smart TVs.

Digital Trends' A/V editor Phil Nickinson discovered this for himself recently upon arriving at a hotel in Florida, where his room TV informed him that he needed to scan a QR code in order to take control of the TV using his phone.

SwiftKey finally brings Apple-style Universal Clipboard to Windows and Android
Swiftkey Feature image

One of the most useful features of the Apple ecosystem is finally coming to Windows and Android. Apple offers a Universal Clipboard across its devices, letting you copy something on your iPhone and paste it on your MacBook, iPad, or other compatible devices. A similar feature is now being rolled out to Windows and Android via Microsoft SwiftKey.

The feature was first spotted by MSPoweruser. Microsoft SwiftKey's latest update (7.9.0.5) brings the ability to cloud-sync your clipboard across Windows and Android. The company is calling it Cloud Clipboard. It is now available for Android, but there is no word on iOS availability yet. The minimum requirement for a PC to have Cloud Clipboard is it should run Windows 10 (October 2018 update or later).

Tons of T-Mobile subscribers just got a free year of Apple TV+
Jason Sudeikis as the title character in Ted Lasso on Apple TV+.

If you're a T-Mobile subscriber on one of the company's Magenta or Magenta Max unlimited data plans, you're going to be getting access to Apple TV+ for free, for a whole year, starting August 25. Unlike some other bonus offers, this one isn't just being used as a way to lure new subscribers to T-Mobile (though clearly, it could do that as well).

T-Mobile customers on the company's Magenta 55+, Magenta Military, Magenta First Responders, Sprint Unlimited Plus, Sprint Premium, and T-Mobile for Small Business Customers plans all get in on the free Apple TV+ action. Better yet, it doesn't matter if you're currently on a free trial for Apple TV+ or if you're already paying for the streaming video service. Those in the midst of a free trial will see their trial period extended by 12 months, while paid plans will be put on a payment holiday for the duration of the free year.
