Starting with the Galaxy S6, those interested in the handset will find that the 32GB and 64GB variants received $100 price cuts. These reductions brought the prices down to $579 and $660, respectively. Meanwhile, the 128GB version of the Galaxy S6 received a $200 price cut, which means that it now costs as much as the 64GB version, strangely enough.
The Galaxy S6 Edge also saw price cuts across the board, with the 32GB and 64GB variants of the handset now going for $680 and $770, respectively. Again, the 128GB version of the phone now costs as much as the 64GB version, which makes the decision much easier if you’re ready to spend that kind of money.
These price cuts are a consequence of Samsung’s recent quarterly earnings announcement, when the South Korean giant acknowledged that demand for both phones hasn’t met the company’s expectations. However, the price cuts are unlikely to affect shipments of Samsung’s low- to mid-range smartphones, which also saw an overall drop in shipments during the second quarter.
Samsung did not elaborate on what led to the decreased shipments, though we can speculate that companies like Xiaomi and Meizu, with the former recently taking the top spot in China, aren’t making it easy for Samsung to continue to grow.
Regardless, with T-Mobile announcing these price cuts for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, it’s only a matter of time until other U.S. carriers announce similar discounts for the handsets.
