Rihanna to Help Nokia Promote New X6 Phone

What do you get when you cross one of today’s hottest R&B singers with mobile giant Nokia— the X6. Nokia teamed up with Grammy-winning recording artist Rihanna to kick off the Nokia’s new smartphone. Rihanna and her label, Island Def Jam Music Group/Universal Music Group International, are doing some media multitasking—promoting Rihanna’s new album, Rated R, and Nokia’s new phone, the X6. This dynamic pairing includes a live streaming of Rihanna’s Nov. 16th London concert onto the X6, as well as exclusive music offerings and mobile applications.

Nokia thinks its customers will be excited about its new touchscreen X6, which is officially launching on November 12th. The companysays this phone is “an entertainment device ideal for playing music and video.” Nokia boasts the X6 comes with plenty of perks: Stocked with unlimited “Comes with Music” service, the X6 also has a pay-per-track Music Store and X6 owners will receive an exclusive version of Rihanna’s Rated R featuring a bonus track, a remix and another mobile app.

“We are thrilled to be working with her [Rihanna],” said Liz Schimel, the global head of music at Nokia. “She’s excited about it personally: she’s a very innovative, cutting-edge, fresh, young, exciting global celebrity, and she has enormous pull around the world. She’s truly a global superstar.”

The Rihanna concert, taking place in London on Nov. 16, will be broadcast across Nokia mobile music, video and online at www.nokia.com/rihanna. Nokia will also be streaming the videos of concert attendees that night.

Don’t update your Pixel phone — a new Android update might break it

Android 14 introduced a host of convenient additions to Google’s Pixel phones, but a recent minor update has utterly broken the storage system for some users. Specifically, owners of the Google Pixel 6, Google Pixel 6 Pro, and Google Pixel 6a who run multiple profiles on their phones are reporting that their phones no longer have access to the storage pipeline for the main profile.

That means users are locked out of accessing the stored media and find themselves unable to add new files as well. A few users have reported on Reddit and Google’s official community forum that they can’t even click images using the camera app because it flashes an insufficient storage warning message. A few others say trying to install an APK package also returns a similar storage writing roadblock.

This summer’s Galaxy Unpacked event was the usual great fun. We got a new Galaxy Z Fold 5 with an improved hinge and more powerful chip, plus the Galaxy Z Flip 5 with a cover screen that’s large enough to see what’s going on. However, Samsung’s latest product lineup also confirms the road I’ve feared the South Korean gadget maker has been on for at least a few months now. Samsung is getting more serious and less fun and whimsical in its product designs, especially when it comes to color choices.

Honor isn’t happy with Samsung taking all the mid-range smartphone glory with the excellent Galaxy A54. As such, it has launched the Honor 90 to see if it can tempt you away from Samsung's colorful and capable device. The Honor 90 matches the Galaxy A54’s price, but what about its specifications?

Honor has highlighted the screen technology as a reason to buy, and it certainly has something we haven't seen before. It’s a 6.7-inch, 2664 x 1200 pixel resolution OLED with a quad-curve shape, meaning it flows down into the chassis for comfort and style. The panel uses 3840Hz Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) dimming to minimize flicker at low brightness, and it's the first time we've seen this level of PWM dimming on any smartphone. Other phones have 1920Hz or 2160Hz PWM dimming (such as the Realme 11 Pro+) at the most. The technology should also help reduce eye fatigue when using the screen for a long time. The screen has a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ certification, and a peak brightness of 1,600 nits.
