Yet another Honeycomb tablet is rumored to be coming to the market in the next month. This one is a little bit different then all the rest though. Acer’s Iconia A100 is the first Honeycomb tablet to come in the 7-inch size. All other Honeycomb tablets have been of the 10-inch variety, so it will be nice to get something new in the mix. Another refreshing difference with this tablet is the price, which is set to be $300. This will be the cheapest Honeycomb tablet when it hits the market, which should be in August.
From what we can tell, the A100 is technically very similar to its big brother the Iconia A500, but with a smaller screen. It also has a dual-core Tegra 2 processor an other matching guts. That should be great for the A100, since we think the A500 is one of the best Honeycomb tablets available. There aren’t enough 7-inch tablets around to see if the form factor is preferable to the larger 10-inch. In our review of BlackBerry’s PlayBook, we couldn’t decide if we liked the smaller size, or didn’t. Ultimately we warmed up to its more portable size, but were left wanting some more screen real estate.
The A100 was originally rumored to be released in May, but was held up due to Honeycomb issues. Hopefully, the three-month break gave the A100 the rest it needed to come out of the gates running. If you are still waiting for just the right tablet, you have yet another one to research before making your decision. At least this tablet will stand out among the rest of the Honeycomb pack.
