The Samsung Galaxy Fold is finally here. After a delayed launch due to build-quality issues, the phone now has a new release date — September 27. As the first folding phone that’s widely available to consumers, the Fold is arguably the most groundbreaking phone of the past few years. Sure, it’s expensive — but it’s also not really aimed at most consumers, and will instead serve as a buyable proof-of-concept for those who enjoy being the first to get their hands on new technology.

If you’re one of those people, then you may be wondering where you can get the Samsung Galaxy Fold for yourself. Here’s everything you need to know about buying the new foldable Samsung Galaxy Fold.

Unlocked

The Galaxy Fold will be available unlocked through the Samsung website and Best Buy. As announced at launch, the device will cost $1,980, but anyone who orders the device now will get Samsung’s Premier Service, which gives customers access to support from Samsung experts at any time.

If you pre-ordered the phone in June, you will have to order it again, as your original order has been canceled. You should also have been contacted by Samsung regarding an offer of a $250 gift card in compensation for the canceled order.

Carriers

While both AT&T and T-Mobile were originally set to carry the Galaxy Fold, T-Mobile has since backed out and only AT&T will carry the phone. In other words, you’ll have to either buy the device unlocked, or buy through AT&T if you want the Galaxy Fold for yourself.

AT&T

The Samsung Galaxy Fold will be available direct from AT&T, and you’ll be able to get it for yourself from select AT&T stores or from the AT&T website starting on September 27. As you might expect, the phone isn’t cheap — you’ll pay $1,980 upfront or $66 per month for 30 months.

T-Mobile

T-Mobile was also set to carry the Galaxy Fold for its original launch, but after the build quality issues, the carrier backed out of carrying the device. Unfortunately, you’ll have to buy the device unlocked if you want to use it on T-Mobile.

Samsung is expected to announce new foldable phones in July. Numerous rumors have been swirling around the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, and the latest news comes from a familiar leaker.

On X (formerly Twitter), IceUniverse has shared an image that apparently depicts a Galaxy Z Fold 5 alongside a Galaxy Z Fold 6. The comparison indicates that the new phone will be wider than its predecessor. The image also reveals that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will feature sharper screen corners. Previous rumors have indicated that the next Galaxy Z Fold model would be wider, so the image further confirms this.

Battery life on the Galaxy Z Flip series has always been subpar. In fact, we dinged the Galaxy Z Flip 5 for its mediocre battery life in our review, saying: “If I take the Flip 5 off the charger at 7 a.m., it’s not uncommon to have less than 10% battery by 9 p.m. that evening.” We made similar comments about the Z Flip 4 and Z Flip 3, which could only last one day at best and not really a full day at that.

It seems Samsung is finally taking this to heart and is planning on bumping up the battery capacity of the Galaxy Z Flip 6. According to a leak from MySmartPrice, the Z Flip 6 (model number SM-F741U) has passed through Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification, and it will come with a dual cell 1,097mAh battery paired with a 2,790mAh battery, for a total of 3,887mAh (4,000mAh on the marketing material). That’s an increase from the Z Flip 5, which came with a 971mAh cell paired with a 2,620mAh cell, for a total of 3,591mAh that Samsung marketed as 3,700mAh.
