That’s right, there’s a successor to 2013’s Galaxy Folder. The 2016 model runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and retains the familiar look we’ve come to identify with Samsung’s Galaxy lineup. Except, of course, for the fact that it’s a flip phone.
The Folder 2 has a 3.8-inch WVGA display that is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 425 processor and 2GB of RAM. It only comes with 16GB of storage, though you can expand it up to 128GB via a MicroSD card. The rear camera has 8 megapixels, while the front has 5 megapixels. It only has a 1,950mAh battery, but that should be large enough to keep this relatively low-powered device running for a while.
The device is currently listed on the Samsung China website, but pricing and availability hasn’t been announced. If it’s anything like the previous model, though, it’ll cost around $250 and will likely only be available in select Asian markets.
This lower end device isn’t the only flip phone from Samsung — there’s also the Veyron, which is purportedly much more powerful. It also looks better, at least according to leaked renders. A release date and price of the Veyron have yet to be announced as well.
There’s a market for flip phones, apparently, as Samsung’s not the only one releasing them. LG and Gionee also have their own variants as well, and they’re all not particularly powerful.
