In December last year, Samsung launched the Galaxy Grand, a smartphone which looked a lot like the Galaxy S3, just with a slightly larger touchscreen. However, the Galaxy Grand had a more basic spec, keeping the price down to a sensible level. Now, almost a year later, Samsung has announced the Galaxy Grand 2, and guess what? This time it looks like a cross between the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3, but with a lower more cost effective spec.

The Galaxy Grand 2 has a 5.25-inch TFT touchscreen – no Super AMOLED goodness here – with a 720p resolution. This is an improvement over the previous generation, which had a 5-inch, 480 x 800 panel. Inside the phone, a 1.2GHz quad-core processor provides the drive, with 1.5GB of RAM to command. Samsung hasn’t mentioned which processor it has used in the Grand 2.

Galaxy Grand 2Samsung has given the Galaxy Grand 2 the same leather-look rear cover as the Galaxy Note 3, which depending on your own personal view, is either really cool, or a bit tacky. The phone will be sold in black, white, or pink color schemes, and weighs a hefty 163 grams with a thickness of 8.9mm.

An 8-megapixel camera lens sits at the top of the rear panel, flanked by an LED flash and the phone’s speaker, while around the front above the screen is a 1.9-megapixel camera. Other features include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, 3G HSPA+ connectivity, and a 2,600mAh battery. Samsung has used Android 4.3 Jelly Bean as the Galaxy Grand 2’s operating system, which will presumably help it connect to the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, and covered it in TouchWiz.

Samsung hasn’t said when or where the Galaxy Grand 2 will go on sale, only that it will be producing a dual-SIM version alongside the regular model. We’ll keep you updated.

Which $1,000 phone has the better camera — iPhone 14 Pro or Galaxy Z Flip 4?
iPhone 14 Pro and Galaxy Z Flip 4 camera modules.

The iPhone 14 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 are very different smartphones. Try to fold the iPhone like the Z Flip 4, and it’ll all end in tears. Yet if you’ve got $1,000 to spend, these two sit alongside each other on the shelves, and that makes comparing them an interesting proposition. Both are very tempting, just for different reasons. Can the camera performance help make any decision easier?
iPhone 14 Pro vs Galaxy Z Flip 4: camera specs
A pair of 12-megapixel cameras live on the back of the Galaxy Z Flip 4, both covering the main and wide-angle duties. The main camera has optical image stabilization and an f/1.8 aperture, while the wide-angle camera has a 123-degree field of view. There’s no telephoto camera, but Samsung provides a 10x digital zoom feature. However, it doesn't make it a big deal and has not added a shortcut to the camera app.

The iPhone 14 Pro has a 48MP main camera with its second-generation optical image stabilization and an f/1.78 aperture, which is joined by a 12MP wide-angle camera and a 12MP telephoto with 2x and 3x optical zoom. On the software side, Apple loads its new Photonic Engine, plus Deep Fusion and Smart HDR 4 features. The 12MP selfie camera also makes use of these features, while the Samsung phone has a 10MP f/2.4 camera at the top of the screen.

Does the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 have an SD card slot? How the phone handles expandable storage
Someone holding a closed Galaxy Z Flip 4.

If we had our way, all smartphones would come with some form of expandable storage, including the latest foldables like the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Most of us store loads of videos, pictures, and other files on our phones -- from the menu for that new Mexican place to the agenda for tomorrow's meeting -- not to mention the numerous games and apps that take up storage space. Sadly, it seems like many phones today have confined the microSD card slot to the history books.

Most older Samsung phones and some recent A series devices, like the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, do have microSD card slots. However, the same can't be said for newer devices like the S22 series or Samsung's latest foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 4. As much as we wish it had one, the Z Flip 4 does not come with an SD card slot.

The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro look like the Samsung earbuds we’ve been waiting for
Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.

The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro — Samsung's latest entry in the true wireless earbud world — feel like a culmination of the company's efforts in this space. The Galaxy Buds Pro debuted in January 2021 with powerful noise cancellation and great audio quality. Unfortunately, they were let down by complaints of wonky touch controls and a design that people either loved or hated. The Galaxy Buds 2 followed a few months later in August, featuring a sleeker, more comfortable fit and a lower price.

Fast-forward to August 2022, and we now have the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, which are smaller than the Buds Pro, but have more impressive audio specs than the Buds 2 — theoretically creating the best of both worlds. (Fast-forward even further and read our full Galaxy Buds 2 Pro review!)
