The Knox-secured Samsung Galaxy Tab E is on pre-order from AT&T starting this Friday

If you’re looking for a relatively cheap LTE-capable tablet, AT&T might have the device for you.

Starting on Friday May 6, the 8-inch device will be up for pre-order, and you can get it for $0 down and $10 per month on AT&T’s Next installment plan. The Galaxy Tab E is one of Samsung’s cheaper devices, but it has a lot to offer if you’re looking to do some reading, watch a movie every now and then, and maybe dabble in some light gaming.

The Galaxy Tab E may be cheap, but it’s a great way to experience Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the latest version of Android. It also includes an unspecified quad-core 1.3GHz processor with 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and, of course, a microSD card slot for adding extra storage. The battery is 5,000mAh, which isn’t huge but it should be enough to get you through a normal day of use.

While the device is now coming to AT&T, it was already available on Verizon.

The device also comes with a version of DirecTV pre-installed — handy for those who subscribe, but hopefully those who don’t will be able to uninstall it without having to root the device. On top of that, you’ll get Samsung’s Knox security, offering “defense-grade security at the hardware level.”

AT&T hasn’t yet announced how much the device will be without an installment plan, but we expect it to sit somewhere in the $200-$240 range. Also, keep in mind that the device will add at least $10 to your AT&T bill. Even if you do end up being able to buy it outright, AT&T charges a $10 per line access fee for tablets. So, if you buy the tablet with Next, you’re looking at $20 extra per month. Certainly not too expensive, but something to be aware of.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is a fantastic piece of tech, packed with the latest and most powerful hardware Samsung can get its hands on. But what about a piece of very old tech? What about the humble 3.5mm headphone jack? Does Samsung's latest flip phone have room for a headphone jack, or does the Z Flip 5 follow the same trend of the last few years in omitting the venerable port?

“Android tablets are a lost cause.” I come across this recurring theme more often than I would like, but there’s some truth to it. As someone who pushes Android tablets as a daily workhorse, I’ve defended on numerous occasions how the ecosystem has matured over the past few years after Android 12L and foldable arrived on the scene.

But compared to the iPad, Android tablets keep falling short. With every brand trying to create its own unique software flavor for tablets that vary dramatically in terms of firepower, no two Android tablets seem to offer a uniform experience. iPads, on the other hand, do deliver experience uniformity irrespective of the screen size.

3 reasons I’m disappointed by the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5

During its Galaxy Unpacked July 2023 event, Samsung dropped a bunch of new products for everyone — from next-generation foldable phones to new wearables and a diverse range of tablets. One of the new device reveals was the Galaxy Z Flip 5, which has been expected along with the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Though I’m still fairly new to the scene of foldables, I have seen the appeal — and in some cases, I prefer the form factor over the standard glass slab that most phones are nowadays. But honestly, there isn’t a lot with the new Galaxy Z Flip 5 that’s drawing me in. Instead, it’s a bit underwhelming.
