Sony Ericsson unveils three new phones to the Xperia family

mini and mini proWhile all of us stateside continue to wait in anticipation, the Xperia Play launched late last month in the U.K. And today, Sony Ericsson added three more devices to its Xperia lineup that we’ll likely have to initially admire from afar. The Xperia mini, the Xperia mini pro, and the Xperia acro were all unveiled in London today. Right off the bat, you can forget about the Xperia acro: The next-gen model of the Xperia arc will launch only in Japan. We got our hands on the Xperia arc at CES this year, and were impressed with its 4.2-inch, 854×480 display and impressive custom interface. But no dice for those of us stateside, as it hasn’t made the cut for any U.S. carriers.

Moving on to the more realistic releases, the Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro. Both are set to launch worldwide in the beginning of the third quarter and feature 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processors and Android 2.3, as well as HD video recording – which is impressive for their diminutive size. Sony says both are also outfitted with Facebook insider Xperia, which is much more than your standard Facebook app. It makes the phone a social-focused device, with Facebook integrated into every element of the phone. Like a song you’re listening to? There’s an option to “Like” it via Facebook’s automatically embedded features. It also means your contact list will pull information from Facebook to add photos and interests to your friends.

The mini pro gives users a slide-out QWERTY keyboard in addition to a touchscreen, and also comes pre-loaded with Office Suite and McAfee antivirus software.

Here are some of the technical specs for the two new Android smartphones and some of their differences (prices have yet to be released):

The smartphone comes with a dedicated shutter button on the right edge, and Zeiss Tessar calibrated optics.

In the name Xperia Pro-I, the "I" stands for Imaging. It features a 6.5-inch 4K HDR (3840 x 1644 pixels) OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, a 21:9 aspect ratio, and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut. The Xperia 1 III is the flagship device among the two, but the Xperia 5 III closely follows it in terms of overall features and experience. The Sony Xperia Pro is the $2,500 phone videographers have been clamoring for
Sony Xperia Pro 1

Sony wants to make its smartphones a little more useful for creative professionals. The company may not make the best-selling (or the best) phones out there, but it is among the best in other areas -- one of those being its video and photo tech. Now, the company is finally launching the previously announced Xperia Pro -- which integrates with its video equipment for a heightened professional workflow.

The device offers both hardware and software features that enable integration with Sony equipment, with perhaps the most immediately obvious feature being the HDMI input. This allows the Xperia Pro to act as a large, high-quality monitor for Sony cameras.
