Sony Ericsson Walkman W760 Phone is Global

Any world-traveller will tell you: going places is great, but getting your phone to work anywhere in the world is a whole ‘nother story. Sony Ericsson wants to ease that pain with its new Walkman W760 mobile phone, which packs both tri-band HSDPA and quad-band EDGE for high-speed mobile data connectivity anywhere in the world. along with an integrated GPS receiver to help you find your way. And, in addition to music playback features (it is a Walkman) the slider-design W760 touts motion-sensitive gaming, and comes pre-loaded with Need for Speed ProStreet.

“People today are always on the move so it’s important that they can stay in touch and have their entertainment at their fingertips,” said Sony Ericsson’s head of music marketing Ben Padley, in a release. “The W760 fits perfectly into this lifestyle. It is bold, action-packed, and takes the Walkman phone beyond just music.”

The W760 sports a 2.2-inch display and the phone’s GPS includes Wayfinder Navigator, enabling users to search over 20 million points of interest, and integrates with Google Maps for turn-by-turn directions to destinations all over the planet. A key accessory for the W760 is Sony Ericsson’s Active Speaker MAS-100, which acts not only as a protective case for the phone, but also offers a built-in speaker and FM radio antenna.

The W760’s music capabilities include SensMe, a feature that quickly enables users to pick music and tracks that support their moods; the phone also offers TrackID functionality to let users identify music over the integrated FM receiver or in the air. The phone also includes motion sensing technology that not only factors into supported mobile games, but also enables the phone to (say) automatically rotate photos depending on the phone’s orientation.

The W760 will ship with a 1 GB memory stick; the phone also offers a 3.2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth A2DP stereo support, PictBridge printing, USB support, the Access NetFront Web browser, and can be used as a modem with a notebook computer. The W760 should hit selected markets in the second quarter of 2008 (with the MAS-100 speaker/case landing at the same time), although Sony Ericsson hasn’t yet revealed pricing.

New Nokia G50 signals HMD Global’s leap into affordable 5G phones
Nokia G50 held in hand.

HMD Global has joined the ranks of smartphone companies launching really affordable 5G phones with the new Nokia G50. It costs $299 or 200 British pounds, putting it up against devices like the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G, the Realme 8 5G, and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G.

It’s obvious from this list that HMD Global is up against considerable competition, so what does the Nokia G50 offer? The specification will be a familiar one if you’ve been following the low-cost 5G phone trend recently. The processor inside is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 480 with matching 5G modem, and a choice of either 4GB RAM and 64GB or 128GB storage, or as a 6GB/128GB version.

HMD Global makes its own MVNO to create a one-stop phone-buying shop
Nokia 7.2

HMD Global, the company which owns the license to produce Nokia phones, is getting into the mobile operator business. HMD Mobile will launch soon in the U.K., and be available alongside Nokia phones for sale on the company’s online store, creating a one-stop-shop for all your mobile communication needs.

Sounds like a great plan, but HMD Global is entering an incredibly competitive market, so will it be able to convince Nokia phone buyers to grab a coverage plan too?
What is HMD Mobile?
HMD Mobile is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), which means it connects to an existing mobile network, and then offers the service to you, usually at a reduced price and on a pay monthly with no contract basis. MVNOs are widespread in the U.K., more so than in the U.S. Examples in the U.S. include Boost Mobile, which connects to AT&T’s network, and Ting, which uses Sprint and T-Mobile's network.

The Sony Xperia Pro is the $2,500 phone videographers have been clamoring for
Sony Xperia Pro 1

Sony wants to make its smartphones a little more useful for creative professionals. The company may not make the best-selling (or the best) phones out there, but it is among the best in other areas -- one of those being its video and photo tech. Now, the company is finally launching the previously announced Xperia Pro -- which integrates with its video equipment for a heightened professional workflow.

The device offers both hardware and software features that enable integration with Sony equipment, with perhaps the most immediately obvious feature being the HDMI input. This allows the Xperia Pro to act as a large, high-quality monitor for Sony cameras.
