Prepaid smartphone customers, rejoice, for Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile, Sprint’s two official prepaid brands, have unveiled a trio of new handsets that will fight for your hard-earned cheddar.

In one corner, we have the Samsung Galaxy J7. Hailing from South Korea and weighing in at just under six ounces, the Galaxy J7 is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor paired with 2GB of RAM. The front of the Galaxy J7 houses a 5.5-inch, 1,280 x 720 Super AMOLED display, with a 5-megapixel camera sitting right above it. Around back, you’ll find a 13MP camera capable of 1080p video recording. The removable 3,000mAh battery should keep the lights on all day, with the phone itself mercifully running Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

The Galaxy J7 is currently available through Boost Mobile for $230, with April 29 marking the handset’s release on Virgin Mobile.

Next up, we have the LG Stylo 2, which was quietly announced this February. Also hailing from South Korea and weighing in at just over five ounces, the Stylo 2 is powered by the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor and 2GB of RAM. The front display measures 5.7 inches on the diagonal and has a resolution of 1,280 x 720. 16GB of native storage is all you’ll get, though the MicroSD card slot lets you expand the storage if you want. Additionally, the 3,000mAh should guarantee the Stylo 2 to be an all-day affair, with Android 6.0 Marshmallow also on deck. Finally, the 8MP front camera should make selfie-lovers happy, and the 13MP rear camera should be just good enough for your Facebook and Instagram needs.

The Stylo 2 is also available for purchase through Boost Mobile for $180, with Virgin Mobile getting its hands on the phone next month, specifically on May 9.

Finally, we have the Kyocera Hydro Reach, the cheapest of the bunch. Hailing from Japan and weighing in at roughly five ounces, the Hydro Reach is powered by the 1.1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor, along with 1GB of RAM. The 5-inch, 960 x 540 resolution display serves as your window to Kyocera’s lightly-skinned version of Android 5.1 Lollipop, with a 2MP camera around front and a 5MP camera around back. Keeping the lights on is a 2,160mAh battery, with the measly 8GB of built-in storage bolstered by the MicroSD card slot. Finally, and coming as a nice surprise, the Hydro Reach brings with it IPX5 and IP57 certification, which should allow the handset to resist a fair bit of dust and water.

Hinted at earlier, the Hydro Reach represents the least expensive option out of all three prepaid options, with the handset currently available through Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile for $100.

Do you want to upgrade your phone more than once a year? What about three times a year? Are you on AT&T? If you answered yes to those questions, then AT&T’s new “Next Up Anytime” early upgrade program is made for you. With this add-on, you’ll be able to upgrade your phone three times a year for just $10 extra every month. It will be available starting July 16.

Currently, AT&T has its “Next Up” add-on, which has been available for the past several years. This program costs $6 extra per month and lets you upgrade by trading in your existing phone after at least half of it is paid off. But the new Next Up Anytime option gives you some more flexibility.

The Nokia 3210 is the worst phone I’ve used in 2024
A person holding the Nokia 3210, showing the screen.

Where do I even start with the Nokia 3210? Not the original, which was one of the coolest phones to own back in a time when Star Wars: Episode 1 -- The Phantom Menace wasn’t even a thing, but the latest 2024 reissue that has come along to save us all from digital overload, the horror of social media, and the endless distraction that is the modern smartphone.

Except behind this facade of marketing-friendly do-goodery hides a weapon of torture, a device so foul that I’d rather sit through multiple showings of Jar Jar Binks and the gang hopelessly trying to bring back the magic of A New Hope than use it.
The Nokia 3210 really is that bad
