T-Mobile quadrupled the amount of data it offers on its Simple Starter plan. Originally, the entry-level plan offered customers just 500MB of 4G LTE data. Now the plan comes with 2GB of data for just $5 more each month.
In addition to the 2GB of data, the Simple Starter plan comes with unlimited talk and text, is contract free, and does not charge overage fees when users exceed their data allotment for the month. When T-Mobile first introduced the plan in May, it cost users $40 a month. Now, users will pay $45 a month, but will receive four times more data.

However, unlike on T-Mobile’s Simple Choice Plan, which offers unlimited data at slower speeds once you’ve gone over your 4G LTE data limit for the month, the Simple Starter plan will simply cut you off from data entirely once you’ve gone over the 2GB limit. Users who prefer to have the guarantee of unlimited data can get unlimited talk and text with 1GB of 4G LTE data and unlimited data at lower speeds for just $5 more with the entry-level $50 Simple Choice plan package.
In the announcement, T-Mobile’s CEO John Legere boasted that the Uncarrier is the only provider who won’t charge users overage fees for exceeding their data limit. The new data amount for the Simple Starter plan kicks off on September 3. It’s described as a “limited-time” offer, but the Uncarrier didn’t mention when the promotion will expire.
