T-Mobile offers up one free year of Hulu for Verizon customers looking to switch carriers

It’s that time of the year when everyone is in the gift-giving spirit, and T-Mobile is no exception. The Un-carrier kicked off its Unwrapped promotion recently to entice customers on competing carriers to switch to T-Mobile. Gifts were already handed out to AT&T and Sprint customers, and now it’s time for Verizon customers to get a little love.

Verizon customers willing to switch to T-Mobile will get one year of Hulu with limited commercials for free. The carrier will give you a $100 gift code that will more than cover the $8 per month cost for the limited commercials plan. However, if you would like to step up to the commercial free package, you can still use your code for that subscription as well. It just won’t cover the cost for the entire year since that plan costs $12 per month.

What makes this deal even sweeter is the fact that you will get unlimited LTE streaming of Hulu through T-Mobile’s Binge On. Binge On lets Simple Choice customers stream 24 video services via LTE without it counting towards their monthly data allotment. Other than Hulu, T-Mobile customers can also stream the likes of Netflix HBO Go, and more without the data counting towards their caps.

In addition to the Hulu deal, T-Mobile is offering up to 50 percent off of any accessory available in-store to Verizon customers willing to switch carriers. We’re not just talking about cases folks, this can be used for the more expensive stuff like smartwatches and Bluetooth speakers. You could grab the Fitbit Charge for only $75 ($75 savings) or even the JBL Flip Bluetooth speaker for only $50, after a $50 savings. Even the Apple Watch is in play, but you won’t be able to get the full discount. T-Mobile is limiting the deal to $250 or a savings of $125, but you can still apply the $125 to purchases greater than $250. The only caveat is that you must finance your accessory purchase.

Verizon customers can take part of this Unwrapped deal from December 11 through December 17.

Switching carriers isn’t always easy when you have termination fees and/or a balance due. If you’re in that situation, you can always take advantage of T-Mobile’s Carrier Freedom deal in which the Un-carrier will provide up to $650 per line to cover those costs when you switch carriers.

This is the fourth part of the Unwrapped promotion. T-Mobile kicked-off the gift-giving season by offering three months of unlimited LTE to its own customers. Then the carrier gave Sprint customers $200 per line for switching carriers, and followed it up with a free memory upgrade on the iPhone 6S along with 50 percent off of an accessory for AT&T customers willing to make the switch. AT&T customers still have until December 13 to get in on that deal.

T-Mobile’s 5G and 4G LTE networks are nearly twice as fast as Verizon and AT&T

Ookla's second-quarter market report has just gone live, revealing that T-Mobile still has a commanding lead over rivals Verizon and AT&T when it comes to offering the fastest and most consistent speeds throughout the U.S.

T-Mobile took the top spot for performance on both its 5G and 4G/LTE networks, with median download speeds of 187.33Mbps on 5G and 116.54Mbps across the board. Overall, that's nearly twice as fast as Verizon and AT&T, which clocked in at 59.67Mbps and 54.64Mbps, respectively. The Un-carrier also delivered the most consistent speeds of the bunch, with 85.7% of tests showing at least 5Mpbs download and 1Mbps upload speeds.

T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T always claim to be America's best 5G network in their commercials. T-Mobile boasts this even more so, and as it turns out, it's true. During PCMag's annual Best Mobile Network test (previously known as the Fastest Mobile Network test), T-Mobile won over Verizon and AT&T as the Best Mobile Network for the second year in a row.

PCMag gave T-Mobile the title after testers drove 10,000 miles across the country to measure its performance against Verizon and AT&T. The test involved driving to 30 cities and six rural regions to test each mobile carrier's reliability using Samsung Galaxy S22+ smartphones. As expected, T-Mobile won that contest in 18 cities out of 30, followed by Verizon with eight and AT&T with four.

Gone are the days when 5G was just a buzzword and deployment was experimental. Today, 5G is an established worldwide networking protocol built into most high-quality and flagship mobile devices. 5G stands for fifth-generation mobile technology, and it's destined to replace 4G (and older protocols) worldwide with speeds up to 100 times faster.  Not only is it faster, but it is also more responsive for overall coverage and reception. That means faster uploading and downloading of documents, images, and videos. For home use, it means replacing fiber-optic cable with fast wireless connections.

There are two forms of 5G technology currently in use: Sub-6 relies on lower frequencies to deliver a much larger network, but the trade-off is that you'll receive only marginally faster speeds than you would with 4G. While mmWave connections rely on much higher frequencies that deliver dramatically faster download speeds, those radio waves can't physically travel long distances or make their way through obstacles like walls or even windows, which reduce signal strength.
