Here’s the first trailer for The Angry Birds Movie

The longstanding feud between birds and pigs will finally find its way to the big screen next year in The Angry Birds Movie, and now Sony Pictures and Rovio have released the first trailer for the film based on the hit game series.

The debut trailer features Red (Jason Sudeikis) and his feathered friends not only taking their first steps down the road to becoming truly angry, but also having their first encounter with the pigs that would becomes their sworn enemies.

Described as an origin story for the titular heroes of Angry Birds games, the film’s script was penned by The Simpsons writer Jon Vitti. Making their directorial debuts with the film are Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis, who worked as animators in a long list of recent, successful animated features, including Wreck-It Ralph and Hotel Transylvania.

Along with Sudeikis, the cast of voice actors recruited for the film includes Frozen actor Josh Gad, Eastbound & Down star Danny McBride, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs actor Bill Hader, Bridesmaids actress Maya Rudolph, and Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage. Supporting cast members include Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele), Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live), Ike Barinholtz (Neighbors), Hannibal Buress (Broad City), Tony Hale (Arrested Development), Jillian Bell (22 Jump Street), singer Romeo Santos, and YouTube stars Ian Andrew Hecox and Anthony Padilla (collectively known as Smosh).

First launched in 2009, Angry Birds went on to spawn multiple spin-offs, licensed products, and crossover games in subsequent years, and ranks as one of the most popular free-to-play mobile games ever made. A sequel to the original Angry Birds game was released several months ago. As of July 2015, the games in all their forms have been collectively downloaded more than three billion times.

The Angry Birds Movie is scheduled to hit theaters July 1, 2016.

A girl looks at a boy in House at the End of the Street.

June is surprisingly over, and with it, a great month for movies comes to a satisfactory close. You've probably watched Inside Out 2 or Bad Boys: Ride or Die or maybe even The Bikeriders. From blockbusters to indie fare, the theatrical movie business has been robust and healthy.

The same goes for streaming. Netflix had a big hit with Richard Linklater's Hit Man, while Amazon Prime Video recently premiered the latest bonkers season of The Boys. HBO and Max have been quieter, but their robust library speaks volumes to the streamer's high quality. The following three films are older, but are just as worth your time as new hits like House of the Dragon season 2.
