Set to bring Marvel Studios’ ever-expanding roster of superheroes together once again for a cosmic showdown with the powerful villain Thanos, Infinity War kicks off with Avengers: Infinity War – Part I on May 4, 2018, then concludes a year later with Avengers: Infinity War – Part II. And according to Captain America himself, Chris Evans, the heroes’ outer-space adventure will likely demand quite a time commitment from their real-world alter egos.
“We start [Captain America: Civil War] in a couple weeks, and then that shoots until August or something like that,” Evans told Esquire. “Then I’ve got some downtime and I can do with it as I please….And then we start the Infinity War, I think, sometime in the third quarter. Fall or winter of 2016. That’s going to be like nine months to shoot both movies back-to-back.”
Of course, that time frame doesn’t include the arduous press tours the actors endure, which got perhaps too lengthy for Evans and Avengers co-star Jeremy Renner last week when they got in hot water for saying some disparaging things about Scarlett Johannson’s character, Black Widow.
The transition from Captain America: Civil War to Avengers: Infinity War will likely be a smooth one for Evans, as he’ll reunite with Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Anthony and Joe Russo for both projects. The pair were recently confirmed as directors of Infinity War, which will be based on a script by frequent Marvel movie scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
While the release dates for Avengers: Infinity War have been confirmed, the cast of the film has yet to be announced, though it’s expected to draw from the majority of the Marvel movies leading up to the film.
