The second, full trailer for Batman V. Superman is composed of almost entirely new footage drawn from the 2016 film, and along with providing more context for the brewing conflict between actor Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel and Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight, the trailer also reveals the identity of the movie’s monstrous villain.
Basically, if you’re the spoiler-sensitive type, this is one trailer you’ll definitely want to avoid. For everyone else, however, here’s a breakdown of what the new trailer reveals:
Clocking in at exactly three minutes, the trailer kicks off with a tense meeting between both superheroes’ civilian alter egos, Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne, that’s quickly interrupted by Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor. The conversation between the two heroes offers a bit more insight into their differences when it comes to being “heroes” — and hints at what’s to come when the two meet in costume.
The preview then goes on to feature clips of the superheroes battling it out in various settings, with Superman reminding Batman that he could kill him at any time if he actually wanted to do so. (A reminder that this isn’t the “big, blue Boy Scout” version of Superman that many people are more familiar with.) The trailer concludes with the debut of the film’s villain, Doomsday — a creature created from the remains of Michael Shannon’s Man of Steel villain Zod — whose attempt to incinerate Batman is thwarted by the unexpected arrival of Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot).
Along with the aforementioned cast, Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice also features returning Man of Steel cast members Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane, as well as newcomers Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Holly Hunter in an unidentified role, and Jason Momoa as Aquaman.
Directed by Zack Snyder and written by Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25, 2016.
