It was reported last month that the long-awaited third Ghostbusters movie may actually happen, but with an all-female cast taking over for the famous paranormal investigators played by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson. Nothing is official yet regarding casting for the film, but that didn’t stop Murray from offering up some suggestions of his own regarding the film’s casting.

In an interview with The Toronto Star, Murray acknowledged that he’d heard all of the recent rumors regarding the Ghostbusters sequel, including the possibility that Bridesmaids director will be behind the camera for the film.

“I’m fine with it,” said Murray of all the recent news regarding the potential filmmaker and cast. “I would go to that movie, and they’d probably have better outfits, too.”

Along with offering his blessing for the project, Murray suggested a few actresses who — he believed — would be great casting choices for the film. Among them were Bridesmaids actresses Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, who have both been mentioned for roles. McCarthy is co-starring with Murray in his new film, St. Vincent, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“Melissa would be a spectacular Ghostbuster,” he said. “And Kristen Wiig is so funny — God, she’s funny!”

Murray didn’t stop there with his casting suggestions, either.

“I like this girl Linda Cardellini (Mad Men) a lot,” he added. “And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there.”

With McCarthy also in attendance at the festival, she was soon told of Murray’s suggestion and asked whether she’d be interested in donning a proton pack for the film.

“I think that somebody is really trying to do it, but nobody has talked to me about it,” she said of the project. “Listen, if the people I think are doing it are doing it, I must never question them.”

“Oh, my God, that’s daunting,” she added. “That’s taking on a legend, a legendary movie. But I would do anything with those ladies, anything at all.”

3 underrated (HBO) Max movies you should watch this weekend (June 28-30)
A girl looks at a boy in House at the End of the Street.

June is surprisingly over, and with it, a great month for movies comes to a satisfactory close. You've probably watched Inside Out 2 or Bad Boys: Ride or Die or maybe even The Bikeriders. From blockbusters to indie fare, the theatrical movie business has been robust and healthy.

The same goes for streaming. Netflix had a big hit with Richard Linklater's Hit Man, while Amazon Prime Video recently premiered the latest bonkers season of The Boys. HBO and Max have been quieter, but their robust library speaks volumes to the streamer's high quality. The following three films are older, but are just as worth your time as new hits like House of the Dragon season 2.

The best Netflix original series right now
Eric and Benedict Cumberbatch in Eric.

The era of Peak TV was also Peak Netflix, because the streamer seemingly had an endless supply of new original series. So far in 2024, that hasn't been the case. Whether we'll ever get the same level of content again seems unlikely for now. But even in a reduced capacity, Netflix still has a few new additions to its lineup of originals.

For the month of June, we're adding the '80s-set thriller, Eric, which stars Benedict Cumbebatch. Our other pick for the month is Supacell, which is Netflix's new British series that remixes some old superhero archetypes. That's not a very big selection for fans who always want something new, but this roundup of the best Netflix original series really does have all of the top options in one place for you. All you have to do is scroll down and make time to binge watch some shows.
