The first trailer for Captain America: Civil War could debut before Star Wars

Now that the second phase of Marvel Studios’ cinematic universe is all wrapped up, fans are eagerly anticipating the kickoff of Phase Three next year with Captain America: Civil War. Very little of the highly anticipated film has been showcased thus far, but that could change in December if a new report proves true.

According to a widely circulated rumor, the first official trailer for Captain America: Civil War will premiere ahead of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.

The rumor regarding the Civil War trailer first appeared online in a story indicating that the footage would debut ahead of the next James Bond movie, Spectre, in November. Heroic Hollywood and other outlets initially cited a report from the Russian theater chain Cinema Park suggesting that screenings of Spectre would be accompanied by the trailer for Civil War.

This report was later challenged by movie news site Collider, however, which asserted that the Civil War trailer would debut with screenings of The Force Awakens in December. The site credited its own, anonymous sources with the news, but also stated the obvious: It simply makes better sense for Disney to attach the trailer for Civil War to screenings of The Force Awakens instead of Spectre.

With The Force Awakens likely to be the year’s biggest movie — and possibly the biggest movie of all time — the studio would certainly be wise to attach its 2016 tentpole film, Civil War, to the high-profile screenings.

The site also makes an intriguing connection between a mysterious Twitter account believed to belong to the Russo Brothers — the directors of 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the upcoming Civil War — and the likelihood of The Force Awakens playing host to the Civil War trailer.

Whether fans do indeed get to see the trailer for Captain America: Civil War in December (or November, for that matter), the fact remains that the full movie will arrive in theaters May 6, 2016. And if the amount of footage we saw from Avengers: Age of Ultron ahead of that film’s release is any indication of what we can expect from the Civil War marketing campaign, there’s a good chance we won’t have to wait until May to see  plenty of Chris Evans and company back in action.

3 underrated (HBO) Max movies you should watch this weekend (June 28-30)
A girl looks at a boy in House at the End of the Street.

June is surprisingly over, and with it, a great month for movies comes to a satisfactory close. You've probably watched Inside Out 2 or Bad Boys: Ride or Die or maybe even The Bikeriders. From blockbusters to indie fare, the theatrical movie business has been robust and healthy.

The same goes for streaming. Netflix had a big hit with Richard Linklater's Hit Man, while Amazon Prime Video recently premiered the latest bonkers season of The Boys. HBO and Max have been quieter, but their robust library speaks volumes to the streamer's high quality. The following three films are older, but are just as worth your time as new hits like House of the Dragon season 2.
