After teasing the arrival of the final trailer throughout the week, the latest peek at one of the year’s most-anticipated films doesn’t disappoint with plenty of action, lots of fresh footage, and the long-awaited debut of everyone’s favorite webslinger in the Marvel movie-verse: Spider-Man. Basically, there’s a lot going on in the new trailer, and it should all bring a smile to fans’ faces.
Set in the aftermath of of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the film has Captain America, Iron Man, and the rest of The Avengers dealing with the consequences of their explosive adventures over the course of the first two phases of Marvel’s cinematic universe. Faced with the fallout from their actions, the team finds themselves divided on how to police their future endeavors, and that split turns into an all-out war between the world’s greatest heroes.
Along with bringing back many of the key players in Marvel’s movie-verse, the film also introduces Chadwick Boseman as African superhero Black Panther and — as glimpsed in the final moments in the trailer — Tom Holland as the new Spider-Man. The brief scene provides our first look at Holland as Peter Parker’s costumed alter ego, and also offers an indication of where the wall-crawler’s allegiances will fall in the feud between Marvel’s heroes.
Directed by Captain America: The Winter Soldier filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo, Civil War stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, Jeremy Renner, Paul Bettany, Paul Rudd, William Hurt, and Frank Grillo in returning roles from the earlier films.
Other newcomers to Marvel’s cinematic universe in Civil War will be Emily VanCamp as Sharon “Agent 13” Carter and Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo.
Captain America: Civil War is scheduled to hit theaters May 6, 2016.
