Back in November, Marvel announced that Rush and Inglourious Basterds actor Daniel Bruhl had joined the cast of Captain America: Civil War in an unspecified role, but now that role has been revealed thanks to a recently published casting call for the film.
As many had speculated when the announcement was first made, Bruhl will play [SPOILER ALERT] Nazi supervillain Baron Zemo in the upcoming follow-up to Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2016. The confirmation of his role arrives via the official casting call for the project posted on MovieCastingCall.org.
Along with listing the known, featured cast in the film, the casting call reveals Bruhl’s part and indicates that the film will shoot from April 4 to August 8, 2015.
Given that Zemo’s frequent collaborators in the Marvel Comics universe, Arnim Zola (Toby Jones) and Baron Wolfgang Strucker (Thomas Kretschmann), have already been introduced in Marvel Studios’ cinematic universe, predicting Bruhl’s role wasn’t too difficult for many comics-savvy speculators. It will be interesting to see how he’s utilized in the film, however, as the plot is expected to pit Captain America (Chris Evans) against Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.) in a battle over government regulation of superheroes.
Captain America: Civil War hits theaters May 6, 2016.
