Chris Tucker will debut his first-ever full-length stand-up comedy special on Netflix this summer on July 10.

The special will feature Tucker’s bevy of impersonations (maybe a few of his Michael Jackson ‘shom-ons’?), his well-known physicality, and his experience moving from childhood to stardom. Fittingly, it was filmed at the Historic Fox Theatre in his hometown of Atlanta, GA.

Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix, calls Tucker “one of the funniest comedians of our time.”

While he started out doing stand-up, Tucker is best known for big screen roles like Smokey in the iconic film Friday, and his turn as one-half of the odd-couple pairing in the popular Rush Hour series, playing Detective James Carter opposite Jackie Chan. He’s also known for his friendship with The King of Pop, making an appearance in MJ’s music video You Rock My World; and as a regular on Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam. His most notable recent role came in the Oscar-nominated film Silver Linings Playbook, starring Robert DeNiro, Jennifer Lawrence, and Bradley Cooper.

Tucker says despite his lengthy movie career, standup has “always been a part” of him. “I’m excited to share it with my fans around the world.”

This is a particularly big deal for Tucker – not only is it his first full-length standup performance special, but it’s also the first project in which he will both star and produce through his new company, Chris Tucker Entertainment. He has, however, previously starred and executive produced a film project in the hit movie Money Talks with Charlie Sheen. Phil Joanou will direct the comedy special.

The performance will be available to stream in all of Netflix’s territories, beginning July 10.

Netflix debuts the trailer for Mike Myers’ The Pentaverate
Mike Meyers in The Pentaverate.

Mike Myers' 1993 dark romantic comedy So I Married An Axe Murderer is perhaps one of the most unlikely films to ever get a cinematic universe. But anything goes in 2022, especially in the age of streaming. Nearly three decades after the film's release, Myers has created a spinoff series for Netflix called The Pentaverate, which is based upon the conspiracy theories mentioned in the movie. In this show, the Pentaverate are the secret rulers of the world, and almost all of them are played by Myers himself!

That's not an exaggeration either. Myers will portray eight different characters on the show. That includes Pentaverate members Lord Lordington, Bruce Baldwin, Mishu Ivanov, and Shep Gordon. He is also playing a tech genius named Jason Eccleston, a far-right radio host named Rex Smith, and a conspiracy theorist named Anthony Lansdowne. But Myers' biggest role appears to be Ken Scarborough, a washed-up Canadian journalist who gets the chance of a lifetime to expose the Pentaverate.

Netflix reveals its film schedule for summer 2022
Jamie Foxx in Day Shift.

CinemaCon is unfolding in Las Vegas this week, and the major movie studios are showing off their upcoming titles to entice film lovers to return to theaters. Netflix, on the other hand, is making a case to stay home this summer with an ambitious film slate that would be the envy of any studio. Earlier this week, Netflix shared a few pics from perhaps its biggest film of the summer, The Gray Man. The Russo brothers (Avengers: Endgame) are helming that spy action thriller with Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas. It's reportedly a $200 million movie that may be the most expensive Netflix production to date. And it's far from the only thing that Netflix has lined up.

Other highlights include Spiderhead, a new thriller from the writers of Deadpool and Zombieland that has Chris Hemsworth and Miles Teller sharing the spotlight in that flick. Elsewhere, Jamie Foxx is headlining the vampire movie Day Shift, while Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg are teaming for a sports comedy called Hustle. But that's just a small sampling of what's coming.

3 underrated (HBO) Max movies you should watch this weekend (June 28-30)
A girl looks at a boy in House at the End of the Street.

June is surprisingly over, and with it, a great month for movies comes to a satisfactory close. You've probably watched Inside Out 2 or Bad Boys: Ride or Die or maybe even The Bikeriders. From blockbusters to indie fare, the theatrical movie business has been robust and healthy.

The same goes for streaming. Netflix had a big hit with Richard Linklater's Hit Man, while Amazon Prime Video recently premiered the latest bonkers season of The Boys. HBO and Max have been quieter, but their robust library speaks volumes to the streamer's high quality. The following three films are older, but are just as worth your time as new hits like House of the Dragon season 2.
