Speaking to ComingSoon, Reeves said he still hopes to make The Invisible Woman, a science-fiction thriller that he was poised to take on after Cloverfield but had to postpone when Naomi Watts dropped out of the project due to a scheduling conflict and the opportunity to film 2010’s Let Me In presented itself.
“That’s still a movie I desperately want to make,” said Reeves. “If I don’t make it right before [the next Planet of the Apes film], I’ll make it right after the next ape film.”
Despite its name, the project seems to have nothing to do with the 1940 or 2013 films titled The Invisible Woman, and Reeves described it as a “very intimate character story” when he discussed it in 2011. According to the filmmaker, his take on The Invisible Woman would have “a similar tone to Let Me In, a Hitchcockian suspense style.”
“It’s an anatomy of this one woman’s desperation,” he explained. “You follow her through every step of what seems like extreme behavior, but at the end you hopefully see why every step was made.”
With the next Planet of the Apes film scheduled to hit theaters July 29, 2016, it could be a while before audiences get to see The Invisible Woman if Reeves opts to film it after that project — which seems likely.
“I doubt if I would make it right before [the next Apes film],” he said. “This [Apes movie] is going to be such an enormous undertaking to get going. I’m supposed to write it as well with Mark Bomback.”
