Set to premiere in April, the new season is expected to draw heavily from the fourth and fifth books of George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series — and the collection of scenes showcased in the trailer seems to support that notion. Along with the all to familiar mix of violence, sex, and the carousel of shifting alliances among the various families and key figures in the saga, the new season appears primed to bring flying, fire-breathing dragons into the spotlight.
Daenerys narrates the flash of scenes which include Stannis Baratheon continuing his quest to take the North, Jon Snow appealing for peace between the Wildlings and the Nights Watch, and Margary Tyrell getting cozy with the new king of Westeros, Tommen Baratheon. And did we mention, dragons?
New cast members for Season Five include Alexander Siddig, Toby Sebastian, Jonathan Pryce, Michael Condron, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, with series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss returning as showrunners for the upcoming season.
Game of Thrones premieres April 12 at 9pm ET on HBO.
