HBO unveils revealing new Game of Thrones season 6 pics ahead of episode 2

Home is more than just a place — it’s also the title of the upcoming episode of Game of Thrones. In preparation for the second episode of season 6, HBO has released six more photos, showing eight different characters. If you’re not up to date on the series, watch out, because there may be spoilers ahead.

The batch of photos gives us a peek at what’s to come when the episode airs this Sunday. Home follows the intriguing season 6 premiere, which finally resolved some of the burning questions fans had been left with after the season 5 finale. Thrones viewers will get to see more of newly returned characters, fresh plans, and ongoing problems.

The official episode synopsis makes it clear that there will be a lot going on in the second episode:

Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) trains with the Three-Eyed Raven (Max von Sydow). In King’s Landing, Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) advises Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman). Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) demands good news, but has to make his own. At Castle Black, the Night’s Watch stands behind Thorne (Owen Teale). Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) proposes a plan, and Balon Greyjoy (Patrick Malahide) entertains other proposals.

While the photos do give us a look at Bran, Balon, and Ser Alliser Thorne, the other characters pictures aren’t mentioned in the synopsis. From Bran’s photo, we can probably assume that he’s in a dream sequence, given that he’s shown standing. Meera Reed (Ellie Kendrick), his traveling companion, is back too, and so is Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan). The latter is shown face-to-face with her father, so perhaps she’s involved in one of these “other proposals” mentioned.

Thorne’s photo simply shows him alone and fairly expressionless, so it’s hard to say what’s going on with him, but the synopsis does indicate that Jon Snow’s killer has the support of the Night’s Watch. It seems telling that there’s a photo of Dolorous Edd as well, though — he could cause trouble for Thorne. Meanwhile, Varys (Conleth Hill) and Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) look worried.

We’ll see it all in episode 2 of Game of Thrones season 6, which airs at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Sunday.

A man preps for battle in House of the Dragon season 2.

Why weren't there any dragons at the beginning of Game of Thrones? It's largely because of the events depicted in the prequel series, House of the Dragon. Despite having control over the seven kingdoms of Westeros, the Targaryen family just couldn't stop themselves from destroying each other. The march to war unfolded over many years in season 1, but now there's only room for one person on the Iron Throne. The just-released first two trailers for House of the Dragon season 2 invite viewers to pick a side between the Black and the Green.

Kaitlyn Dever cast as Abby in The Last of Us season 2
Kaitlyn Dever in No One Will Save You and Abby from The Last of Us Part II.

HBO's The Last of Us has cast one of the most pivotal roles in the show's upcoming second season. Via Variety, the network has announced that Kaitlyn Dever will portray Abby Anderson in season 2.

Abby first appeared in The Last of Us Part II, and she earned a divisive response from fans for reasons that have too many spoilers for the second season for any non-gamers. Suffice it to say that Abby has a serious grudge against Joel (Pedro Pascal), and she is absolutely hated by Ellie (Bella Ramsey). The show's official description of Abby calls her “a skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved.”
