It’s punk rockers vs. Patrick Stewart’s neo-Nazis in the first Green Room trailer

From a Starfleet captain to the telepathic leader of a mutant superhero team, Patrick Stewart has played some memorable roles over the years, and his next character is promising to be yet another intriguing turn for the British actor.

In the upcoming thriller Green Room, Stewart plays the leader of a group of neo-Nazis hunting a punk band who had the unfortunate luck of witnessing a murder. And while Stewart doesn’t make an appearance in the first trailer for the film, his voice does — and it’s terrifying.

Green Room is written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier, the filmmaker responsible for the critically acclaimed 2013 thriller Blue Ruin. Along with what seems to be fantastic casting of Stewart as the film’s sinister antagonist, the film stars Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots (Need for Speed), Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development), Macon Blair (Blue Ruin), Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders), Mark Webber (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), and Callum Turner (Queen & Country).

A hit at the Toronto International Film Festival when it was screened last year, Green Room earned rave reviews from critics at those festival screenings — particularly for Stewart’s portrayal of the neo-Nazi group’s leader.

The film follows a young punk band that makes the mistake of booking a gig at a secluded venue where they stumble upon a brutal murder committed by a white supremacist gang. The band must then fend off a brutal siege by the Nazi thugs led by Stewart’s character.

Green Room will get a limited theater release on April 1, and will then expand to more theaters April 15.
