The teaser focuses on what’s to come for Richard (Thomas Middleditch), who (spoiler alert!) was dumped as CEO of his own company at the end of season 2. Although he’s often been more comfortable coding than navigating the business world in the past, he doesn’t look ready to hand over the reins of the startup without a fight.
“I want to be CEO of Pied Piper,” we hear him say in the preview. “This is my company. I worked my a** off to build this company. I made it, I deserve it, and that is my final offer.”
His demand is straightforward and his delivery is firm, but a little mishap at the end detracts from the message: Richard makes the mistake of putting all of his weight on the desk in front of him, and there are stacks of papers that swiftly slide apart. Thus, his offer is punctuated by an actual headdesk — one that results in a bloody nose. For viewers, it’s pretty entertaining, but for Richard, the timing couldn’t be worse. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait for season 3 before we find out whether his impassioned speech and its graceless finale will improve his standing within the company.
Along with Richard, the comedy series focuses on a group of guys working in California’s famed tech industry who together found a startup. The series co-stars Middleditch, T. J. Miller, Martin Starr, Kumail Nanjiani, and Zach Woods. It comes from co-creators Mike Judge, John Altschuler, and Dave Krinsky.
Silicon Valley season 3 premieres at 10 pm ET on April 24 on HBO.
