Tom Hanks reprises his role as the ever-brilliant Robert Langdon in the upcoming film, which once again pairs Hanks with director Ron Howard. This time around, Langdon finds himself at the heart of the mystery after amnesia robs him of his memories and puts him on the trail of a deadly global threat.
Inferno is based on Dan Brown’s 2013 novel of the same name, and is the third installment of the franchise after The Da Vinci Code and 2009’s Angels & Demons. All three films were directed by Howard and starred Hanks in the lead role.
Featuring a screenplay by Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible, and Spider-Man screenwriter David Koepp, Inferno co-stars Academy Award nominee Felicity Jones, as well as Omar Sy, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Ben Foster, and Irrfan Khan.
The official synopsis for the film reads as follows:
Academy Award winner Ron Howard returns to direct the latest best-seller in Dan Brown’s (The Da Vinci Code) billion-dollar Robert Langdon series, Inferno, which finds the famous symbologist (again played by Tom Hanks) on a trail of clues tied to the great Dante himself. When Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones), a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories. Together, they race across Europe and against the clock to stop a madman from unleashing a global virus that would wipe out half of the world’s population.
Filmed around the world in Venice, Italy; and Budapest, Hungary; Inferno premieres October 28 in standard and 3D theaters.
