As revealed in a brief teaser that hints at the mystical elements of its title character’s origins, Iron Fist will premiere on the streaming video service March 17, 2017. Like Luke Cage, the series will debut with a 13-episode first season.
Iron Fist will be the fourth new series to come out of Marvel’s partnership with Netflix, following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. The main characters of all four series will eventually team up for the crossover miniseries The Defenders, which brings them all together (along with some of the supporting characters from each series, most likely) in order to battle a threat that’s greater than any one of them can handle individually.
Game of Thrones actor Finn Jones plays the title character in Iron Fist, a billionaire who returns home to New York City after disappearing for years. Faced with the encroaching criminal element in the city and his own difficulties in reconnecting with his family and his past, Danny Rand (Jones) uses a mystical blend of kung-fu and powerful magic to protect the innocent and all that he holds dear.
Along with Jones in the title role, the cast of Iron Fist also includes Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing (whose name is referenced in a brief scene in Luke Cage), David Wenham as Harold Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, and Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum. Jessica Jones actress Carrie-Anne Moss reprises her role as lawyer Jeri Hogarth.
Award-winning Dexter and Six Feet Under writer Scott Buck serves as showrunner on Iron Fist, which had its first teaser trailer released back in July during Comic-Con International in San Diego.
The fifth new series from Marvel and Netflix recently began filming in New York City, with Jon Bernthal reprising his role as The Punisher for an upcoming solo series. The Punisher doesn’t have an official premiere date at this point.
